My experience at Wealthy Affiliate - week 34 of 52 part 1

Here I am, once more rather late on giving an update on last week workload, and how I delivered.

How did I do?

Once again, last week saw me perform poorly. Once again, the week was taken over by external obligations which ate up on the time I ended up being able to spend on my online business.

Of the long list of to-do items which I mentioned last week, I only managed to tick one box. But, other than writing a post, my progress is non descriptive, I'm afraid.

This is no excuse, but the more I progress into the year, the more I realise that, if I were able to work on this avenue full time, my online business would be much more successful.

And that's where I start wondering whether this is the catch.

Where's the catch?

So far, for the level of development my websites had reached, I could manage things on a part time basis. But as my websites need to be taken to a higher level, I am wondering whether they would need my full attention - something that at the moment I cannot afford to do, as I still need my 'day job' to honour my financial commitments.

Every week I keep hoping that i shall manage to achieve more the following week. And every week I end up with admitting to the same defeats.

Please, any suggestions for a different approach or a new strategy? Leave your comment below (and don't forget to click on the 'Like This' green button).

In the meantime, do as i say, not as I do!!!

Perhaps your goal of reporting your weekly progress is having a negative impact. You are forcing yourself to admit that you did not live up to your expectations and that can be frustrating. Working this part time is admirable...you willing to take on a new challenge while still working another job. But adjust your goals accordingly so you won't feel unsuccessful. It might take you longer, but you are doing something positive for the future. Just my thoughts.....Debbie

What I need to master again is consistency. I think I need to adjust my non WA commitments in order to be able to keep up my commitment here.

Keeping a site going definitely takes time and effort. Budgeting time is sometimes difficult due to events in life. Continue to do your best and things will work out.

I certainly will, Pablo. Thank you.

Is it worth looking at outsourcing posts?
could you justify putting out a post a week from an outsource - not fiverr.
This way you free up your time - still get things done on your site and you commit to financial freedom.
It is one of the difficult choices bloggers have when juggling job/blog time versus money.
Success will come but it will take a lot longer if you slow down - google doesn't like it either, it likes consistency.
So i would plan out the next 3 month period of blogs, briefs and get some done outsourced, these can be 'in the bank' and used in the case of life getting in the way. Or produce some short blogs yourself, 500 words or so, and keep them
Similar with twitter posts, facebook posts etc.
It will take time to setup and implement but it will be worth it in the end.
Good luck with what you decide to do Giulia.
Phil

All excellent ideas Phil, especially the one of keeping them on the side for the 'just in case' times. Can you advise however, why not Fiverr?

There are probably a lot of good people on there, but what do you get for a fiver today?
Don't expect too much good quality work from there.
Always go on recommendation if you can - ask on here - beauandnik maybe one to ask if you are interested.
As i say there will be a lot of good people on there who want to write very well. I don't have first hand eperience but reading around they don't get a good review from most places.
I also tried the scheduled posting in wp and found it didn't work, so don't rely upon it.
Good luck putting your posts away for a rainy day

Don't be hard on yourself. It will get better. Each small step matters. Love your accountability system .

Well, after last year experience, I felt accountability with other members would be an incentive to keep on track of my own progress and, why not, an incentive to keep focused.

I know the feeling. Just not progressing as fast as I would like.
Just as I get into the 'zone' something comes up and distracts me, then I have to push to get back to the zone. Sometimes I feel so inadequate and amateurish but as they say, persistence is the key.

Do you know what Abdusalam, it is reassuring to know that I am not the only one to feel the way I feel.

I'm sure we're not the only ones... lol

It seems there's a bit of disappointment and guilt involved when we don't accomplish what we set out to do. In my opinion, the reason for this is that we put too much on our plate, and and are bound to be defeated. Put less on the to do list and we might all feel a sense of accomplishment rather than that let down feeling. Give yourself credit for all you have done to this point!
Pat B

So true, Pat. Wise words.

Disappointment and guilt. Yes, I can certainly relate to those two feelings! My to do list is a long one, but not to be implemented all at ones. It serves me more in order to keep focused. I think it is my family / day work / life list that needs skimming down! :)

So much to do, so little time.

Tell me about it!!!

I am in the same boat! I can only work on my website part time since I have a full time job that keeps me busy 40 hours a week. The only suggestion I have is "persistence". Even if it's just part time, every time you work at you online business, it's another step towards your goal of monetizing your site. All the small steps makes one big step eventually. :). Keep on keeping on!!!

Dennis, we are indeed in the same boat. But thanks for your encouraging words. And guess what I am doing tonight: I am working on my websites. Yay!

Obligations sometimes happen!

Randy

Yep, you are right Randy. Only that sometimes there are far too many external factors and far too often to interfere with my plans.

I am the same way. Sometimes i look at my website then look outside and then i pretty much end up outdoors.

I keep telling myself that i have to get going but get defeated. It is coming together slowing, but a least that's something. :) Thank for posting.

I guess it's going to have to be a conscious effort in beating our own inertia. Because I know that, unless I roll up my sleeves and get on with it, nobody is going to develop my websites and my business but me.
