My experience at Wealthy Affiliate - week 18 of 52 part 1

Last week was one of hard work, real ups and a massive downer for me. But the main thing is that I did finally managed to write and to become more fluent in the process. So, yes, I am a happy bunny.

What's gone on

If you remember, this time last week I mentioned the possibility of completing a post later in the evening. As per usual, that didn't go to plan. I pushed that publication to the Monday, which much effort as I am not very good at doing 'big work' on days when I work and come back home knackered (!!!).

But, I did that, and managed to push it through the usual social media channels.

Not only that, but I also managed to publish another 2 posts. And did that relatively smoothly - I expect that was as I knew in advance what I wanted to write about.

The biggest achievement however was also the fact that I enhanced my Facebook profile and started actively posting and taking part in groups. And it is this work that, I believe, led to some 3 referrals (yes, would you believe it, 3 referrals!) within 24 hours. Something I had read about from other members, but certainly something that had never happened to me.

And to be honest, I am still in shock.

When the bubble burst

And then I was taken back down to earth with a big bang.

I received a comment on my Border Terrier dedicated website (if you want to have a peek, check out from the list under my profile here), where I was accused to use a picture next to my header without authorisation. That is a big allegation in breech of copyright law! The person sending the comment was most gracious and all, albeit upset, asked only that I remove the picture immediately - and of course I duly obliged.

I shall tackle the subject more in detail in a separate blog here. Rest to say that, whenever using Google Images like I may have done for the picture in question, I ensure to pick up only those pics that are labelled for reuse.

Moral of the story: when it comes to pictures, you can never be too sure.

What now

This week is not going to be as productive, and unfortunately I know this from the onset. I am busy working at the UK local election day both on Thursday and at the weekend, in additional to my normal every day job. So I know that I will barely be able to get on my tablet in the evening.

I would like to move forward with the Bootcamp, as well as possibly go through more training on social media platforms. In passing, please see my links again under my profile on the right of this post.

I took a big tumble with the picture business, but I expect it's one of many falls we are all to expect whilst climbing the steep hill to our goals.

If there is one thing I am not going to do is let this incident stop me from pursuing my dream.

And how has your week been? Have you ever inadvertently broken copyright law in the course of your internet career? Share last week experience, leave your comment below.

Onward and upward!!

Your week sounds like that of any normal person. We have our highs and then we are reminded that the occasional low is part of life. Just pick yourself up and move forward. A nice post by the way!

Thanks Roy, and you are right, build that bridge and get over it!

Hello Giulia!

Life has got many "ups" and "downs". We learn the most from the "downs", seeing it in that way, "downs" are also positive, don't you think?

I won't be able to work very much on my website this week either. But I'll do my best to make up for it as soon as possible.

Wish you a week with a lot of "ups" and happy moments.

Thanks Pernilla, and same to you my darling!

Giulia, overall it was a great week. Right? So even the next week can't be such productive, you will harvest the fruits of this past week. And that , I believe, will be very satisfying. Keep going. I believe in you!

Oh yes, I may not physically be at the keyboard to type away, but the brain will never stop thinking...

Hi Giulia
Been there done that. You do feel like you've been knocked down apeg. It's hard to put it out of your head but you just have to do it. You're being productive and I know it will pay off.

Keep going

Luthor

You know what luthor, knowing that you've gone through the same makes me feel so much better. I started feeling like a bit of an outlaw (lol). But yes, I guess the best attitude is to learn from mistakes and move on and keep writing.

Keep on Giulia. Being a happy bunny is a great goal!

Yes, the picture episode did knock my confidence a little bit. I did wake up deflated this morning, but hey, I'm looking at it now as a massive learning curve. So yes, still happy bunny.
Thanks Mike :)

Giulia, I have a couple of friends who are photographers and they said that there is a site which they use where it will scour the internet and find where their photo's are being used.

As you said, you need to be careful where the photo comes from and whether you are allowed to use it.

On a brighter note, congratulations on what you have and are achieving. Keep up the great work.

Have a wonderful day :)

The more I try to find out about not breaking the law with pictures, the more of a minefield it gets as far as I am concerned.
With regards to my doggy website, I think that, unless it's a product review where I am allowed to use the supplier's pictures, I shall use my own of my dog Indy :)

I personally don't use google for photos. For me, I can usually find what I need on sites like unsplash.com or by using my own photos.

However being a site about photography, I have a lot my freedom in the types of photo's I can use on my site.

Good evening Giulia,

With pictures, it has not happened but it has happened the other way around and I do not know if I really like it, if it is bad or good or even allowed. When I went to Google to look at my website you can often see on the first page a section which says: pictures related to ...... In a big cocktail of seemingly related photos about this subject, I find private photos of me from different pages of my website and even a photo of myself from the about me page.
Now I did not give permission for that and am somewhat puzzled.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Oh yes, I see my pictures as part of the Google image 'strip' as I call it. I understand copyright law, and respect it and adhere to for as much as I know how. And never stop looking for ways that may prevent me from breaching the law.
On the other hand, I'm thinking if a picture of mine is shown from my website, it creates publicity and exposes my site to hopefully a wider audience.
I believe in never publishing anything on the internet (social media or websites alike) that you don't want people to see. Because, once on the internet, its very difficult from stopping its circulation.

Giulia

Giulia, you are accomplishing a great many things, excellent work! I'll take your advice about pictures, many of mine are Google. Best wishes for your continued success!

Yes, after my experience, I would strongly advise anyone to double check their pics! :)

At least they were nice about it! Good luck with your work!

Well, the person did not hide her annoyance, but all she asked was for me to remove the pic. Moral of the story: you can never be too careful.

Thank you for the reminder. I had better go check mine. I used Google images for my websites. You re a busy lady, but look at all your accomplishments! Well done!

I guess you are right, we are put our very best and sometimes we are bound to glitch in the process. Thank you ever so much Susan, but yes, check your pics!
