Fonts

A font is the style of the text. In a normal theme the fonts are preset. In premium and some free themes you can change these fonts. But you have to pay attention if you’re using fonts not normally installed on a computer.

Normally you have 4 font families and you find these on most computers:

But god sake there are a lot of plugins you can install to use without problem in WordPress and all these different fonts are displayed correctly on most of the browsers.

Font Plugins: WP Google Fonts http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-google-fonts/ - Ultimate TinyMCE - http://wordpress.org/plugins/ultimate-tinymce/

Font sizes

In WordPress you normally have 6 fixed font sizes for headlines (H1 – H6)

The other formats are the Paragraph (normal body text), block quotes and lists. With a font plugin and some themes you can adapt these sizes at your convenience.

Text align

There are 4 classical text aligns:

Left and right align, center and justified (left+right align). You can with the edit tool also indent a paragraph.

Columns

In the basic themes there is no integrated possibility to put the main content in columns, like in the newspapers or magazines. You will find themes and plugins that allow you to put text and illustrations in columns.

Colours

The colours of a website are not limited to the colour of the background and text. You have to consider all the colours used together. For example the links on your site can have three colour choices:

▪unvisited

▪hover

▪visited

It's important to make sure everything is in harmony. Your header may be filled with colour while the rest of the site may be less colourful. Titles, headings, and lists, all can be in colour. And don't forget about the bullets on your lists - they are often coloured, too. With so many colour choices, finding a colour scheme or theme can be a challenge.

To define the colour in WP there are 3 possibilities:

140 colours can be indicated by their name, blue, aquamarine, dark red etc.

In RGB (red, green, blue) values from 0-256 in each colour

In hex values like #0000FF (blue).

Some themes have the possibility to choose the colour by a colour picker. If this is not the case you find a lot of colour pickers in the net.

If you have a specific brand colour you find also colour converters from hex to cymk or rgb and back (http://web.forret.com/tools/color.asp)

Graphic settings

These settings, if available, may be different from theme to theme. The most interesting are the possibility to choose a border for your images.

Advanced design tools

If you do not want to learn or use html or css, you can do some more advanced design with the Ultimate TinyMCE plugin or use premium themes, which allow settings through shortcodes.

Shortcodes

Shortcodes are macros to be used in posts. Some of them can be used in web design to create a lot of graphical possibilities like:

accordions, boxes, tabs, toggles, and more .... You will find some plugins that will allow you to work with the shortcodes (Arconix Shortcodes http://wordpress.org/plugins/arconix-shortcodes/)

With the 2 tutorials I think web design is a little bit more comprehensive for all the web design newbie’s.

Thanks a lot dear fellow members for your comments.

hI, Again, my good friend. That's a great Post. If I was to take a course in this stuff ...I'D WANT MY PROF TO BE YOU or some one you had influenced

hi, Mr. Giludi, thank you so much for this (first, please don't hate me for telling you what to do)
but I supposed you should put these tutorials in your 'TRAINING' folder, to make easier for rest of us (specially newbies like me) when we're facing same kind of problem in the future. Instead of searching your (awesome) blogs one by one (which I believe more will come) we can directly open your TRAINING folder. Beside that, I'm very grateful that you're here and thank you so much for this (gusti)

Hi Gusti,
I would like to make real training, but you must be premium member for at least 3 month. So the only place I can offer tutorials is with my blog. Have a nice day.

You're right, Mr Giludi, I just check them out.. Sorry for jump into conclusion that fast (and wrong!)... ;)

Very informative, Thank you :-)
