My 3 domain names are up for renewal at GoDaddy in a few days. What's the benefit of not just redirecting them, but actually transferring them to WA?

The usual issue is that GoDaddy often clobbers you at renewal, instead of the normal $14 per .com that most registrars including WA charge per annum, GoDaddy often mark up renewals to as much as $30-$40 a pop. I'm afraid even Kyle got stung recently, with a domain he'd forgotten he had there. https://d.pr/rRnFP

Unfortunately, you probably won't be able to transfer them away if there's less than 60 days to go before renewal. I'll keep my fingers x'd you get charged reasonable renewal fees this time around!

They made me wait 60 days to transfer my domain.

You get Private Registration, unlimited email accounts, plus all the hosting advantages that's already included in your membership. The private reg'n & email accounts are both extra at GoDaddy.

So, for a process perspective...my domains are up for renewal at GD - staggered over the next month. Do you know if it's best to transfer them all today? And, if I do, when do I renew my registrations with WA - when I transfer them?

I believe you have to pay for the year immediately upon transfer and then you can have auto renewal or manual renewal.

You can ask Site Support for more specifics.

Most likely the price, nothing else.

If I keep my domain names registered with GD, does this impact any website activities I can do with WA?

No, I have a few registered around.

No, not at all. The only thing that will change is the money you'll save by not having to pay GD for reg. & hosting. It's a no brain-er.

Karen, yes and no. To renew my 3 domains is about $20 CDN each, and hosting is about $236/year CDN with SEO and SSL, while I paid close to $600/year USD with WA. This is why I'm a bit overwhelmed and confused about where to renew.

Either way, thanks for your input! :-)

is there a benefit to keeping them separate from WA platform?

You were asking about domains. Site hosting is a different thing.

Yes, I realize they are different things. As I'm deciding what to do with my domains, I was recalling reading somewhere that it's best to separate the two in case one provide goes down, so I just thought to ask if there was any benefit with keeping the separate. All part of educating myself.
