Wasn't sure what classroom to post this in, I know it's beyond the "getting started' phase but couldn't find a better fit.

Anyway, I'm soon going to be needing to show some proof of income, and currently my only income is coming from affiliate marketing. I was curious how you experienced marketers did such a thing? My revenue comes in from 5 different sources- Google, Amazon, Commission Junction, Linkshare, and more recently, here at WA - but I'm not sure how to show "proof" of income. I can find earning reports on their websites, but I don't receive paychecks i just have it direct deposited into my bank account. So I can't find anything that's nice and clear proof like a paycheck.

I need advice!

Hey Wendy,

All "earnings" are those that you deposit in to a bank account. That is how you prove your earnings and it's what most governments would look at. Most folks earn revenue from many sources but when you deposit that revenue into your bank account is when you have "received" it. A print out of your bank account deposits is usually sufficient.

One little "Trick" that you may want to do to make things easier for yourself at Tax time is when you deposit your earnings, write down what you are depositing in a deposit book, and where it came from. Also, ask the bank teller to deposit them as separate items so the deposits do not all get clumped together. This means you'll be able to look back at your bank statements and see each deposit and match it up to a check you received.

At the end of the day, every deposit you make to your bank account or accounts is earnings and needs to be reported at Tax time. Of course, you have write off's too. Your Wealthy Affiliate membership for example is a write off. Your domain name costs are write offs, and anything related to your business is a 100% write off.

By "Write Off" I mean that you subtract these amounts from your earnings as they are a cost of doing business. When you start earning revenue, your WA membership instantly becomes a discount at tax time, as do all expenses.

Do you mean proof of income for taxes or some kind of loan? It was a real pain in the a** getting my home loan this year because of this reason. Non-US aff programs don't issue a 1099. Depending on what you are doing you should have emails, paypal statements, and bank statements showing who the money is going to and where it's coming from. Some places might accept things with official headers, other places may not. I would also consider printing out the affiliate area of whatever program you're in, which has your name, payout history, and maybe a physical address. As long as the payouts match the numbers going to your bank or paypal, you should be OK. Also, in Paypal you can print out your monthly statement which works like a bank statement.

It's just for an apartment so it isn't as serious as a home loan or anything. I just have my bank statements right now, I couldn't find a payout area in my affiliate programs that had all my information connected with the other. I don't think I have any of my payments connected with paypal, it's just a direct deposit into my checking account.

I can only tell you how I do it for my accountant. I give him all of my 1099's. All of the companies you mentioned will send you a 1099 if you earn over $600 (I'm pretty sure it is $600. Otherwise you can use your bank statements to show other income. For example if you are buying a car or house, banks will take bank statement or tax records as poi. Hopefully this will help you.

Thanks Wendy! I've only recently started getting paid a few months ago so I haven't gotten any 1099s and still am new to how to handle it all, thanks for the input!
