An company wants to confirm my website for approval to be an affiliate by uploading a confirmation form using a FTP. I have read the previous instructions for using an FTP but they are so out dated, (some a old as a year) and I still dont understand how to use.

Can someone please explain to me in laymen's terms how to upload a file to my website using a FTP?

thank You.

the company sent me an application confirmation form. It's encoded, so I cant see what the form says. I'm not so sure I want to do this. I have never heard of such a thing and being new to IM, i dont want someone damaging my website with some type of scheme

Go to this page first to download the ftp client client...

https://filezilla-project.org
Then, you have the option which platform you usually use. If you use windows only choose that button or if you use MAC OS or etc use the button ALL PLATFORM, clicked it. You'll be redirected to another page which you will see a button colored GREEN, that says... DOWNLOAD NOW, click it. Then, in a matter of 5 seconds a small window box will upper infront of your screen with a description, "Download FileZilla from SourceForge.net", you will then to click the "START DOWNLOAD". Once done, downloading the file. Open it.

Once your FTP client opens, do the following below:

1. Type in the HOST: ftp.yourdomain.com
2. username
3. password
4. just ignore PORT
5. Click the button, QUICKCONNECT.

Hey Charlotte,
There is training on it here:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/ftp-filezilla-connecting-to-domain-via-ftp

As Carl (@Rizzer) stated make sure you trust what that file is. You may want to get a bit more insight from the affiliate manager. I know that Google uses this technique to verify websites but I have never had an affiliate manager ask me to do this. And I have worked with many of them.

Best Regards,
Jim

yes techhound, I was very skeptical because of all the affiliate companies I have applied for, I was just asked for my website for verification not to have a file sent to my website. I'm still a little leery about this.
Thank you

FTP (file transfer protocol) lets you connect directLY with the server that hosts your website. The navigation once inside the server is very much like using the windows file and folder layout you see when going through the harddrive of your computer.

To connect via FTP you need a piece of software, I use Filezilla as its free, well supported and easy to use.

Messing around inside your websites server can lead to complete disaster unless you are sure of what your doing. If you can wait until tomorrow (its late here in the UK now) I would be happy to get this file uploaded for you.
