Some discussion about purchasing Genesis and other themes...supposedly better than free ones? What's your take on this question? I hate to invest a bunch of $$ until I start making some $$, ya know? Just curious

Free themes are fine to use before you start making money! I have used many different free themes and haven't had any issues. You just have to be careful to check out the reviews and make sure it isn't crappy or going to harm your site in some way. I have been doing this for over a year now and have gotten away using just free themes and am only now considering an upgrade to a premium theme.

Thanks, Wendyjane, for your input. This whole concept of creating something from nothing is a bit overwhelming at first. Baby steps to get to the holy grail, right? Good to know that I don't have to purchase THAT at the very beginning. Good luck with all your stuff....been reading thru your blogs....good stuff in there. Thanks again.

I'm going through a different Theme now, a new fancy one, it's like a new learning process. The change can also be both time consuming and frustrating when you hit into a problem. So unless you really dislike or having issue with your existing free Theme, avoid changing.

Free themes work just fine when you are just starting out. Some people use free themes the whole time without any problems. The difference is that many of the free themes are limited in regards to how you can customize them unless you feel like playing around with code. Premium themes are usually much easier to customize and have a lot more options.
Plus paid themes are almost always updated on a regular basis and provide support. Some free themes are updated normally from what I have seen but do not be surprised if a few of them eventually just kind of sit stale. Many free themes also do not have support available from the designers which can make it tricky if you have problems.
Do not feel like you have to purchase a theme =). I would def. focus on your site first and getting content up. If you just absolutely hate all the free themes then feel free to.

Thanks, Jean....I'm just now fleshing out the categories and stuff, so I have a long way to go! Appreciate your suggestions. I'm just guessing that WA doesn't have a lot of themes offered that have known issues....am I right?

Well for the premium members there are ALOT of free themes to choose from but I haven't run into any that have problems. It is normally quite obvious when you do and if it happens you can always change themes! to find one not annoying the pants off ya =)
