Hi guys,
Having recently paid for a full months subscription to WA, but then realising that it really isn't for me - given the glitches that I've recently experienced - is t

Great question, great answers. Hope it has resolved.

Hi - Tom has answered your question, but I wonder if you have perhaps been trying to achieve something with your site that is beyond a beginners level.

I notice you have only completed level 1 of the training which really only covers the absolute basics. Plus, you mentioned a couple of months ago that you were using Elementor to build your site, which is not necessarily newbie friendly.

Perhaps if you were to install the recommended Generate Press theme which is easy to use and concentrate on adding content rather than design you may progress a little further.

Good luck in whatever path you choose.

Hi Diane, many thanks for your comments; I really appreciate them xxx :-)

To be honest, I realise that a lot of the problems I'm having are down to me having a 'bad hair day' or two! :-) Okay, with my rapidly disappearing hair, maybe thats a bad analogy! ;-) LOL

I hear what you're saying regarding Elementor and I appreciate that my choice of Astra along with said Elementor may have been a bit off target. But surely, basic websites built with such as Hiero (an option given to absolute beginners) are way off the mark? Sites built with such basic software are unlikely to succeed in the long-run - don't you agree?

Assuming I can get back into WA, I will give Generate Press a try. :-)

As you will know, online marketing and online advertising - like everything else in life - doesn't stand still! And I'm sure that you will agree that a lot of the advice given as lessons on this site is way out of date!

Obviously, running a service such as WA is no easy undertaking and constant updating to keep up with the latest trends (and Google's changes!) isn't easy! But I sometimes wonder whether the founders may be resting on their laurels somewhat!

Like many prospective online marketers, I spend time looking at many other options available to us online marketers and so many times, I read that WA is perhaps getting left behind, due to a lack of pertinent updates to its training. For example: Jaaxy v Ubbersuggest? :-(

In closing, I am going to try yet again to access my websites and I sincerely hope that I will be successful and that I can then move forward and continue to make proper use of WA's (basically sound) training model.

Once more, many thanks for your feed back and comments.

My best wishes to you always
George.

Most likely the glitches are on your end. There are no glitches coming from WA that I am aware of.
No refunds here per WA terms. However, you may want to contact billing choosing the Billing category:

Cheers Tom.

My latest reply from WA's technical people, answered only half my question - and it took them over an hour to reply - used to be a few minutes!

Added to that, why should a business that is supposed to be offering a service, get away with fobbing questions off on to other members? Messages from 'Kyle' (I suspect an auto-responder!) being an example....

Anyway, whatever happens down the line, many thanks for getting back to me and for the feedback and links. :-)

George.

You're welcome George!

Hi all,
Just a quick query if I may?

As a 'newbie' I can fully understand the need to belong to a community such as WA. But can I ask long-time members this question?

Many reasons, but the most important one is that I ENJOY it!

Jeff

The hosting is excellent and very reasonably priced and there is new training every week.

Honest answers
If you are promoting WA you need to be up-to-date and there is always something new to learn and apply.
If you have a niche site you could move it from WA hosting but you better be able to find someone that can provide a secure site.
The online world is continually evolving and I believe that this is the best place to help your business evolve with the times.
Just thinking
Ray

Good question George. I'm just new too, but I assume that because WA is providing a secure platform for sites, they are better here than somewhere dodgy. But that's just my thought.

I just stay to read my blogs again as they are so good😜

Hi there :-)

Having spent ages trying to build a professional looking website from the ground up, I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that I'm not a designer!

Hang in there, George--you'll get there eventually!

Jeff

LOL Rumour has it........

🤣🤣🤣

i have started to come across plugins that allow changes to the theme - so like size of heading - colour of bars - hiding elements
and it is all graphiclal so you don't need to program it....
you can't change your theme completely but you can customize it.
but as has been said below - keep to a clean user experience and maybe add this to a test site to convert to something you want to build.
then take it one step at a time changing things.
the one plugin i have tried and it seems to work quite well is siteorigins css - i have come across another so wil ltry that one out...there maybe more
have fun

Hi there!

Many thanks for the feedback, its really appreciated. :-)

I reckon one of the things I need to get stuck into, is planning out my website better - rather than trying to 'wing' it! lol

Kindest regards
George. :-)

definitely - plan out what categories and the type of info you are going to put in there ( don't forget the tags - list all the single and two word tags which will tie your aite together)
the products you are going to promote and where they will bel inked from.
it is easier said than done - but the planning stage can be done while you are keyword searching and writing your first pieces of content.
then it will all start to come together....
but stick with a plain theme like astra or generatepress - which can be customized later

More good advice, thanks!

I have Astra (Pro) and Elementor Pro too - that shows how BAD I am as a designer! LOL ;-)

i take it you have seen the astra starter templates plugin - where you can get a stylised theme for elementor...

Yes - clear as mud! :-)

If you're using Elementor, there's a plugin called Envato which has a ton of amazing templates

Hi Sonny,
Many thanks for the info. I've just had a quick look at Envato and it could be just what I'm looking for. I'll have another look later on.

Appreciate the help!

Kindest regards
George.

Glad to help, George

What type of design are you looking to achieve? The best sites are the simple clean ones. Graphics come to play with images, which can be very effective as a Featured Image on the Blog Roll of certain themes. Canva is a great free service, and you don't need much design skills to create a great graphic.

Hi there,

Many thanks for the reply. I'm all for clean and simple, but I wonder these days, is that enough? I mean, all the youngsters seem to want all the whistles and bells on everything else - so surely they prefer dynamic websites too?

Thanks for the tip regarding Canva - I'll go and have a look at it later. :-)

Kindest regards
George.

No worries George. When designing a website, I always follow Google, who have now gone Mobile First. So all sites I design must look good on a mobile. Adding anything too fancy will make it difficult to navigate. Bearing in mind, we're delivering written content mostly to our visitors, who are looking for answers. When it comes to images, I always place images on their own line, never side by side, so that it fits on a mobile/cell phone screen well.

Thanks for that. I already knew about the need to optimise for mobiles (and tablets too, to a lesser degree) but I appreciate your input all the same. :-)

Have you seen Kyle’s latest post? He published it a few hours ago, it’s worth a read and is about themes, Google and page speed etc

Hi, yes, I've seen it. :-)

It's hard to help without knowing what you want it to look like.

The theme is key in the appearance of your website. I have 3 sites and use 3 different themes.

My drone site uses one called Envo Magazine and I really like it.
My WA promotion site uses a theme that was actually created for Gyms.
My membership site uses GeneratePress and Elementor Pro.

Hi there,

Many thanks for the great feedback!

To be honest, I'M not even 100% sure what I want my website to look like!

As I said in my reply to Feigner, I reckon I need to map out what I want my website to look like and then design to that. I thought I could wing-it, but obviously, I'm not that good! LOL

Please excuse me being cheeky, but could you possibly let me have the URL's to your websites, so that I could take a look at 'real' sites, rather than one thats being built by someone using it as an example of how to use software?

Once again, many thanks for taking the time to reply to my question.

Kindest regards
George.
