Hello folks,

It's been awhile since I've posted anything and been involved in the community. I do apologise - I am missing my active time in WA but for the time b

Try this training - I think it will answer all your question Good luck! SF

Thanks Orion. I'll take a look right now. Thanks :)

then you click on the siterubix button on the left, Domains, then you go to the bottom of that page and transfer it through there

Thanks Matthew. Isn't that if I want to transfer the registration? I don't need it to transfer hosting, do I?

You will need to get a transfer code first from your current provider then you can bring your site here with that

A transfer code is only required for moving the domain registration to WA. That is not required to switch the hosting from Dreamhost to WA.

Thanks Bob. That's what I thought as well.

Hello Gary,
I definitely would advise you to view Jay's Video It will give you the "low down" step by step.

I personally also do SM to every post copying the text from G+, in Jay's video he explains that he uses mainly/only G+ to promote his posts, but I see no harm in adding FB, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest & Instagram

Good Luck - hope this helps you out!

Hi all, I'm loving the new Site Content look, feel, color-coded tags and now the ability to add images. Awesome stuff so thank you to Kyle, Carson, and the WA tech team for put

Hi,
You can use microsoft excel, then copy and paste in word.
Again copy and paste from word to your editor- Done.

Thanks Praba. It seems the long way round except to say we’re capturing everything once already (in tablepress) and excel is easier to use when you’ve been using it so long.
I do like the idea of pasting the table here except the one downside may be if you’ve made a mistake.
Thanks for your tip though.
-Gary

Exactly what I was dealing with yesterday. I guess that right now we will have to publish and add table later in the wordpress.

It would seem so. That’s what I’m doing at the moment but it would be kinda neat to do it here wouldn’t it :)

Oh yeah:) And I've just found another missing feature...preview of the post. I use it to preview the correct positioning of the images.

You can create a comparison table in "links and tracking" under the airplane symbol I believe

Thanks, James. I'll take a look.

Ah, yes, just had a look but it's a comparison table of WA versus xyz. I was wanting to create a product comparison table i.e. 4 different models and their differences.

I haven't tried it yet but I know it's there. Let me know what you think. I was thinking about trying it

Ooooohhh...that's a pretty great idea. U may could import one from word but I don't know how well it would work.

Great idea!

I thought so LOL

Hi folks, does anyone know what the errors in webmaster tools mean (attached) and how to fix them or if I even need to?

Thanks!
Gary

Thank you PatsyC - It seems you always have a fix for my problems too.

Hi Mike, I just happened to notice your comment when I left one for Gary.

When I see a problem I contact SiteSupport first and if they can't help, I try my best to solve them. I always write a blog post to share with other members. I have many of them, you can always go to my profile and they are all listed there.

Hi Gary, I've been there.

I wrote 3 blog posts about it and they are all in this one...

Hi Patsy, thank you. I've just had a quick read of your post and it looks like it is a pain in the proverbial :) I'm a bit like you in that I don't want to see any errors at all!

I'll see what I can do to rid myself of them ... for good!!

You are welcome.

The one plugin did the trick. It continues to fix the errors.

The 4 I still have left, 3 of them are my 'original pages' and one is a post.

I've learned that the older themes don't have the code for pages but they do for posts. The code takes care of this issue.

I tried everything except I won't touch codes. You have to practically create them. Experts who know codes well can break a website so I'll never take that route.

I even tried 'highlighting' in Google Search Console. That was a big pain and such a waste of time!

They don't harm anything, and Google should not refer to them as 'errors' because they aren't!

Let me know if you solve the one for pages :)

Okey dokey, I've just added the plugin so I'll monitor and let you know how I go with that option :)

That's great. Keep in mind as I stated in those links that it can take weeks. I tested the plugin for 2 weeks FIRST before I shared it, making sure it actually does something.

Twice my plugin was deactivated, once by SiteSupport when I asked about an issue that had nothing to do with it. I knew something was wrong because the errors were coming back and then I found out why. My new posts were creating the errors.
I contacted SiteSupport and politely told them off. They could have at least told me, so it took about a week or so for the errors to get corrected.

I used to check every day but since I installed the plugin, after a while I don't bother anymore. It's Google's problem for creating errors that are not errors.

Hey Gary,

I had this exact same error over six months ago now and Google searched to fine the error. Here's a Google search result: http://bit.ly/2fNJ6Dh to help you find the fix that works for you, as I cannot remember exactly what worked for me.

Hope this helps you.

Hey Trish,

Thank you for the link. I'll take a look at what Patsy had in her blog before I go scouring google for an answer ... although I did try to follow a link before, but it didn't make any sense to me :)

I'll let you know how it goes! Thanks again.

Hey Gary,

Optimizing your images BEFORE you upload them to your website; for this option, you can use a free tool https://tinyjpg.com/ ... or use the plugin EWWW Image Optimizer Kyle details here : There are plenty of other ways you can optimize your WordPress website to make it load faster. Here is a blog post to help you learn about other options: https://useyourpassion.com/11-steps-to-make-wordpress-lightning-fast ... BUT, if you’re website is hosted on WA and using SiteSpeed, you can skip number 9.

Hope this helps you.

Hey Trish,

That's good info. Thank you. My site is hosted here and I have activated the EWWW Image Optimizer plugin. Something I haven't done the "allow the image optimizer to track plugin useage". Is that something that's recommended?

Thanks for the other tools to use Trish.

Am not sure about that Gary. I use a theme that automatically optimizes images for me, so I do not need that plugin.

If Kyle did not cover that in the training you might want to do a search using the plugin name, at the top of this page, in the search textbox and check out the other training offered here to see if it is mentioned.

Hope this helps you.

Perfect. Thanks Trish.

Have an awesome evening.

The images just being on the server does not directly impact your website speed. However, too large image files uploaded and used within your posts can impact your site speed tremendously.

The maximum width of an image that can be actively displayed on most screens is about 690 pixels in width. And that is even big. Here on WA, images can be uploaded with a maximum width of 540px.

So you should size down your images to a format that will be used on the web. Also use a format such as png or jpg to compress the size even further (if they aren't already).

Often the quality of the image can also be decided upon when resizing an image. You don't need the highest quality of images on the web when they are just displayed on a screen. It is a different story when that image gets printed on a T-shirt or a brochure.

Keeping the size down to somewhere between 20-150 kB is best.
The more images you use within a post, the more images you load in at your site at that time. Smaller images will load in faster than very big ones.

Steven

Thanks for your detailed response and explaining the sizes, Steven. That's very useful to know!

Keep your images the same or just slightly bigger than the display size. WordPress only accesses the images as it displays them so having lots of images in your media library is OK. Never remove images from your media library that you are displaying anywhere on your website or they won't show up any more.

Thanks Marion. Good advice. I'll be sure never to inadvertently remove used images.

Only files used in the site have an impact on its performance. If they are not used then do not keep them in the media library. I have thousands of pictures. Keep them small, 20-30 kB is usually more than enough.

Thanks Jovo. That makes sense. I'll keep an eye out for those orphans :)
