This was a first for me

For the first time I got a message about my blog content after I tried publishing my last blog titled "Stress". This was the message:

Your blog content needs to be unique, original, and not copied from anywhere online. We found that your blog content is already published on other website(s).

Since my blog is a quote contained in an image, (and I always use a plagiarism checker for my quotes) I figured it must have been the text I used which was:

Let go of the past! (I know ... a pretty common phrase)

So I changed it to:

It might be time to let go of the past! (I wouldn't say this was unique either)

Anyway, it was published immediately.

Even though I use a plagiarism checker, it still worries me that I may write something that I think is my own, only to find that someone else has already said it!

So I love this feature built into WA!

I knew it wasn't my usual phrase I use to end all my blog posts with, as I've been using this phrase for a few months now and I've never seen this message.

So thank you WA.

As always:

"Dream big; strive to be first; and become limitless"

So, WA has a plagiarism checker? That's good to know. I'm wondering how it works now. I was unaware of this. I'm glad your content got flagged before the "rest of the world" got to see it though!

BTW, I absolutely love your signature!

Interesting to know. I use a separate service for checking, but having WA on the case can't hurt, either! I write my own original content, and have never been flagged, but you never know when someone else might have written the exact same phrase or two somewhere else.

No, WA have a feature that can gauge if any of our blogs have been publushed elsewhere on the Internet. I use a separate plagiarism checker when I write anything.

I see. Can you tell me the name of the checker you prefer? Until I saw this post, it hadn't really occurred to me that this would probably be a good idea. With a bazillion blogs and websites on the web I would imagine it would be easy for two people to come up with basically the same thought in very similar words. Thanks in advance.

This is the tool I use:

Thank you!

At least you got the message from WA Gaylene before someone else who has a good habit of doing this to people got there before you. Xx

Yes indeed Cheryl, thanks for the comment :-)

I'm glad you posted this Gaylene. I wonder if this plagiarism checker is also on our websites we design through WA?

Does anyone know?

I don't believe WA provides a built in checker. There are lots of free services that you can use, though. Just type "plagiarism checker" in a Google search.

No they don't have a plagiarism checker, but they have a feature that will tell you if your blog content has already been published on the Internet.

Hi Gaylene, thanks for sharing this.

You're welcome Didi :-)

How interesting! I appreciate the plagiarism checker, but now I have a question. It isn't plagiarism if credit is given to the original author. I've often lifted a phrase or two from another source, but never without telling my readers where it came from. I actually looked for MLA and APA style guides that would tell me how to do citations correctly IN a blog (as opposed to citing a blog) but didn't find anything definitive. (Not even Purdue OWL!) I would love to know more about citing sources in a blog. Does WA have any guidelines for that?
Bookmarking this for future reference. Thanks for posting!

Hi Laura, yes siting your source is a must, but I would head over to the WA rules of blogging and read the full policy, If you can't find what you're looking for then a message to Kyle would be my recommendation.

I'm sure this is a common practice ...you can only say certain things so many ways and then after that it's going to be repeated....

True Anouschka, thanks for stopping by :-)

Hi Gaylene, just put it down to experience. Irv.

Yes, it's a great feature. Thanks for the comment Irv :-)

I didn´t know WA came with a plagiarism checker. Good feature, I reckon. Keeps you creative, eh.

No they don't have a plagiarism checker, but they have a feature that can gauge if our blog content has already been published on the Internet.

That sounds a lot better too! Thanks for enlightening me, Gaylene

Gaylene ,
I had the same thing happen to me. I feel your pain.
Thank you,
Bobby

I think it's a great feature to have though, I'm pleased that every other one if my blogs is authentic. Thanks for the comment Bobby :-)

Keep being your self and let your thoughts be spontaneous don't over think, your attitude is what makes you, you

True Michele, thanks for sharing your thoughts :-)
