I'm working with someone who wants to add a Private Members area to their WordPress site. They do personal coaching, and sometimes, they work in Groups.

Gary this was a very good question, but I am not quite there yet. I will for sure keep this information for future use...thanks.
Gary - I am already working on something similar.
Depending on the depth your clients is interested in, you may be able to password protect blogs and posts without having to install another plugin. You do this by creating or editing a post / page. On the right side of the dashboard screen, you'll see:
Publish
Visibility Public Edit
When you click on Edit, you can change it to password protected and assign a password.
However, if you are considering a plugin, there are free membership plugins that should serve your purpose. Maybe one of these will work:
Paid Memberships Pro
Simple Membership
MemberFindMe Membership, Event & Directory System
If you are unhappy with these, just do a quick search from dashboard>plugins>add new, and type "membership" in the search bar.
Also - a quick suggestion - your client may need a forum and bbpress is great (but you are more educated on this than me).
Hope this helps and God Bless!

I would use the Optimize Press theme for this. You can create membership portals using this theme, and a whole lot of other things.
https://www.optimizepress.com/ that's the direct link to their site.
Gary, I would recommend a membership site.
MemberMouse offers a great easy to use platform.
TRY IT FREE: 14-Day Free Trial.
I would like to have a little membership section on my website too which will be login based
There are many ways to accomplish this. A nice (and free solution) is to use a plugin called S2 Member. It essentially allows you to set up levels of membership (free and paid) and lock down content based on member level.
The free version integrates with PayPal, but to integrate with PayPal Pro or other merchant services requires the paid version of the plugin.
If you go paid, I'd recommend using Wish List member.
Hope that helps
You could capture their email address through an auto responder which replies with a password to the protected pages.

It will work up to the point you part ways.
You can multiple admins to a site but then the other admins can always change or edit the content you write and that includes you affiliate links.
I partnered with a friend on one website and we used Intelliwidget plugin to display different affiliate links on posts we wrote individually. It worked until we decided to go our own ways. No reason it can't work for you. ~Marion
Yes, my daughter has a site too, and I am also an admin on her site, she can put affiliate links on it, so do I
I suppose the logical reply would be, "Yes, she could establish her own affiliate links" and a one-on-one relationship with those "vendors". But remember, you would be doing all the actual site building duties seeing as you're hosting it. Would you be hosting it here at WA or somewhere else, like HostGator?
I would be doing it here. Eventually, I would want to hand it off to her. I just want to help her get started.

From my experience in internet, search engine does not craw by subdomain. It is best on keeping some personal pages in our subdomain directories.
no, sub domains are great for keeping a healthy site especially when it comes to testing link building.
Do subdomains affect seo results in a bad way?
