Second Month Milestone

Renewed for a Second Month

Today I renewed my monthly membership for the first time. I’m still going through the certification courses, and need to go through the rest of the affiliate bootcamp.

I took online classes a few years ago in web development (HTML, CSS, XML, PHP, JavasScript, JSON, Python, and mongoDB). I attended Pycon in 2013, and met one of my mentors in person, which was cool. I enjoyed the training, learned a lot, but the lessons didn’t really show how to put everything together. Also, the lessons were graded by the instructor, and if you didn’t go by their methods, they would keep failing it. It was frustrating, but I got through it.

The link below is Kyle’s blog about Universities, and I feel the same way as he does. I’m already seeing a lot of value at WA, and the training shows how everything fits together nicely. The community support, and ongoing blogs and training are very detailed, informative, and timely.

Hanging Out at the Library

I like to go to the library, and I’ve been spending a lot of time. They have quiet cubes with window seats, or nice tables where there is more activity but not too much noise. I spent all afternoon there today focusing on WordPress, which I haven’t really done yet. I did enough to get through the steps in training, but now that I know how to look at and analyze other sites, I can really start tweaking my site, which is still in progress.

I know content is huge, but I want the layout to make sense. I also know that I can get into the guts of WordPress, and I’m comfortable with that, but I’m not spending much time playing with the code. Right now it’s just the Theme, Plug-ins, Menus, Categories, etc.

Networking at the Library

As I was leaving, just before the library was closing, I stopped to ask a question at the desk. They have a job placement service, and I was curious about it, and I wanted to know if I needed to make an appointment, which was confirmed. Now, thinking about making the appointment, I want to turn this into a networking opportunity.

Since the library provides the job placement service, along with help with the computers, I might mention WA, and suggest that if they feel anyone is interested, they could contact me, or use my link, to see if WA would be right for them.

Reaching Out to Friends

I’ve also started to plant seeds to my friends, and I have sent some information, but I want to have my site in a place where they can use it to get the full story, and not just bits and pieces.

One friend is a high school English/Social Studies teacher, so I’m sure she would know if any of her students might want to try WA. It’s a huge opportunity for them to share book reviews and leverage affiliate programs.

Multiple Sites

In my previous blog, I mentioned that I have other web-sites I use for work. I have some ability to customize them, but it’s limited. They are great for connecting the MLS listings, and tracking clients searches, doing e-mail campaigns, etc. But, I still have to pay for an upgrade for things that I won’t take advantage of. Today, I decided I’d stay with the basic version, and use other sites that I have full control over.

I have 2 other domains that I already own, but they’re just sitting there. One is a .realtor, which is very specific to me, and the other is more of a lifestyle blog name, that could be tied into real estate and local communities, with affiliate marketing for local business owners.

I want to have full control over the marketing funnel, then point them to where they need to go once they have gotten to the appropriate point. The real estate sales lifecycle can be 12-18 months, or longer, depending on their situation.

I know these are big plans, but I’ve been stewing over them for the past 9 months. I have a better idea how to get this done now, thanks to WA!

Next Milestone?

I plan to stay with WA for as long as I can, and by my third month, I would really like to be on the yearly plan. I feel it would take some pressure and urgency off, since I’m still going through the training at this point, still evaluating everything, and trying to be responsive to my other job.
