Annoying neighbors

So, I was busy with one of my posts and all hell broke loose at my backdoor neighbor, their annoying dog once again broke into a 5 minute solo moon howl and incessant barking rant, only it was midday and all I needed was some peace and quiet to complete my post in peace.

Upon knocking at the neighbors door, no reply, I know for a fact that they are home, I never met them, as whenever I try to introduce myself, they never answer the door. The dog seems to be tied up, because when it barks, it comes from one spot, so I assume the poor animal's movements are restricted which is why I suspect the incessant barking

Alerting authorities bore no fruit, they say that they cannot gain access because no one ever answers the door. What to do, I cannot gain access from my side as my setup is a totally secured boundary and trespassing is an offence. They acquired the dog sometime over the festive season 2016, and has been a menace ever since, barking every day, that incessant barking.

Any suggestions?

Gary

Gary,
I wouldn't really blame the dog.. I had a neighbor that had a dog like that. Usually, the poor thing was tied up in the back yard. When the animal would bark or howl.. it was usually when he had wrapped his self up in the rope and couldn't move, or he had knocked over his water and was thirsty.

Not the animals fault.. blame the neighbors. They are obviously irresponsible animal owners.

Can you see the dog, or only hear it?

The dog is in distress if your neighbor doesn't answer the door they are probably deaf and can't hear the dog nor the door bell. So you will probably have to take action. Getting mad and upset doesn't help you or the distressed dog.
There is always a better way you will just have to find it
Linda

Hello Linda
Thank you for your visit and insight on this doggy matter, you are so right about getting mad, it is frustrating and annoying but I do realise that it is not the poor dog's fault, I will resolve this amicably in time, just need the correct method that will benefit all concerned.

All the best
Gary

Contact the animal society or animal welfare.
The dog is obviously in distress and bored.
They have to act, in the wellbeing of the dog.
Just use a different approach instead of saying the dog barks all the time, say it must be something wrong because the dog barks all the time. Maybe something happen to your neighbor as you never see them.
Cheers Sylvia

Hey Sylvia
Thanks for popping in, and your suggestions,
I will consider these options, just concerned that the authorities might frown upon false reporting of the nature of the complaint, here we have very slow response times to complaints anyways, I am sure a solution will present itself.

All the best
Gary

Do you have a garden hose?

Hello Mickey
Thanks for dropping by,
OHHH you will not guess how many times I considered this, but it is not the poor dog's fault, it rests with the neighbors, a solution will present itself I am sure, I just hope it will be sooner than later.
All the best to you Mickey.

Gary

I'm sorry; I must not have been clear enough; the hose is not for the dog! (Ha Ha, I think, but....) something needs to 'hit' the neighbor

Lol, agreed

It is a problem Gary but I believe in most cities there is a by-law that provides you and your neighbours with "the quiet enjoyment of your property." The dog is obviously bored and lacking contact, hence the incessant barking. If it was me I would do two things
. I would record the dog barking and the times. Contact the by-law office and file a complaint. There maybe also noise abatement by-law that you can submit a complaint. I hope these help.

Hi Harvey
Thanks for popping in and your suggestions, I will take it under advisement and try these channels.

All the best to you Harvey

I had this too, day and night, all through the night, the dog was caged - it wrecked my head and sleep and I couldn't solve it because those sort of people have a screw loose in the first place, and the police really don't want to know - I think the suggestion about logging it and proving it [by recording it and the times] means someone would have to take action because you've provided evidence

in my case the people moved, but that's a 1.5 years of sleep I can't get back and I still go to bed really late as a result - in my case though I notice if I move these problems tend to show up at the next place

Law of attraction - also work on your subconscious and program your mind to expect the best - no kidding, hypnosis!

Hello Mary
Thanks for dropping by and sharing your experience with a similar matter.
Moving is not an option for me, I have been here over 20 years and this is an establish neighborhood, peaceful, low crime and leafy, I have seen this neighborhood grow into a pleasant area to live and will not allow an inconsiderate neighbor to ruin it, we have a ratepayers association meeting coming up in 1st week June, will surely get some results through this channel.

All the best
Gary

That's great, you have people on your side there it seems. My problem was people here prefer to 'turn a blind eye' that stand up to things. 'Evil prospers when good people do nothing', but if you guys get together you can nail this one - I'd still do a log and recording of the noise though...

Sounds like trying to speak to the neighbor is out.
File a formal complaint with the city. Get others in the neighborhood to do the same if possible.
If you suspect the animal is being abused by being tied up all the time you can report that as well.
You could also become a barking nuisance to the officials every time there is an issue, pleading for them to help.

Hey, what about a very loud dog whistle. Humans can't hear those, right?

Sorry Gary, never had to deal with that before so no real experience.

Hi Mark
Thanks for the visit, and the suggestions, I rallied the neighborhood as I am on our local watch, but for some reason, I seem to be the only one that hears this particular dog when it barks, most other neighbors are away at work, daily and the dog rarely goes off at night, a solution will present itself I am certain,
All the best Mark

bandaid fix: listen to music with headphones while working online

Hey Ashley
Thanks for dropping by, an excellent idea, I will remember that when this pesky dog starts up again.
All the best
Gary

There was just a local news story where a 90 year old lady was going to jail because neighbors complained about her barking dogs and she didn't respond. The reporter said that the person just kept a log of all the barking...day, time, duration...and turned it in to the police. Maybe if you did that and get it to animal control or local police, they would have to take action on your behalf. Good luck.

Hey Debbie
Thanks for popping in, yes I considered all options and recording the disturbances for a few weeks now, the thing is that I am such a softy, and do not want to make a big deal of this as it will further strain a non existent relationship with the neighbor, whom I never really met yet, I am just hoping that this neighbor comes to his senses and does something about the poor animal.

Gary

yep, I've got those annoying neighbors too. I guess my suggestion is... move! lol

Hey Tennyson
I do not think they will like me moving them out without their permission, Lol
Thanks for dropping by.All the best
Gary
