HOPE - what is it?

Wikipedia defines hope as:

"Hope is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes..."

I love having an optimistic mindset and I continually grateful that I have been blessed with this attribute. It has most certainly shaped my thinking about everything, which has in turn shaped my life for the better.

That is not to say that I have lived a charmed or untainted life - far from it. I have had personal, family and financial disasters like pretty much every other human being on the planet. BUT, I have tried most of the time, to see the opportunity in adversity and the silver lining in the darkening clouds and I believe this has helped me through some very dark times, because I never let the little light of hope completely extinguish in my mind.

Even when things got very tough, I have always strived to think that things will all work out one day even if I couldn't see a way out for myself during these times, I liked to trust that someone else, or something else, would. And do you know what? That tiny seed of hope was like a grain of sand, tipping the scales in my direction. And one grain of sand, can lead to more and more until the weight of optimistic thought begins to translate into the momentum of inspired action, leading to a more productive and positive outcome. Of this, I am certain.

I do not say it is always easy - sometimes we all have to dig deep to find that part of our souls that is rooted in the positive, the one that only ever sees the positive, no matter what. But I can assure you that it does exist within you, always. And if you can find it, even for a moment, by appreciating a sunset, saying 'thank you' for your existence, your family, your journey, or each breath, you will have added one grain of sand to the positive side of your scales.

We are living in unprecedented times that is true; but as a human race, has adversity not been our salvation and deliverance? We are resilient, creative, amazingly powerful beings and everything we have ever done, and I do mean everything we have ever done, was conceived in our minds first. So let's make our thoughts things that carry with them our humanity, our love and our enduring power for good.

So today, no matter what situation you find yourself in, I urge you to believe in the power of hope and in whatever large or small way you can, remind yourself that you are great. If things are tough, they will get better. Dare yourself to dream a little and allow yourself to hope. Look for the rainbows and you will see them. And you will set in motion a process that is universal, unconditional and has power beyond your wildest dreams.

Happy Friday to one and all.

You are welcome Gail.

Hi Gail,
I completely agree and thanks for your lovely post. We have been in lockdown here for over 6 months now. Whilst this situation has been a hard one, for me it has come with many blessings. When this is all over and we are allowed to get back to whatever a new normal looks like, I don't want it to be the same as before for me. I have learnt to slow down, appreciate the beauty in small things even more, value what I have more, learnt to do without unnecessary 'stuff', and generally simplified. I am a happier person because of it. One of the things I do now is thank the universe for all it provides. I am more hopeful now than I have been in a long time.
Thanks Gail. Wishing you all the best.
Cheers
Melissa

Hi Melissa
Great to hear from you and glad you are keeping optimistic. I completely agree with you, and I too have learned to slow down and appreciate different things.
It's amazing how the universe can redirect us when she wants to.
:)
