What you need to be successful at Wealthy Affiliate: some ideas

What do you really need to be successful here at Wealthy Affiliate?

I've listed a few things which you might consider developing or gaining in order to improve your chances of success.

1. EFFORT. I believe that you reap what you sow and that what you put into something is directly correlated to what you personally get out of it. This is not just a monetary measure, but much more than that. If you put a real effort into your work here, building your website and focusing on moving forward a little bit every day, then the rewards will come. These will be many and varied but will be related to the effort you put in.

2. THE RIGHT MINDSET. A positive mindset is a must, not only for working though the challenges that you will come across at WA, but for working though life in general. When you are looking for good things, good things will come and the opposite is always true: when you are looking for things to go wrong, boy, do they go wrong!

3. KNOWLEDGE. There is no shortage of knowledge here. The training is second to none and it is easy to go through and very thorough. Remember that there are many ways to gain knowledge here at WA - the training is easily laid out through the green button and it is done in such a way to hand-hold you through the creation of your site, leading you to take action at every step. However, there is also a wealth of what could be considered to be 'bonus knowledge' by tapping into the experience of so many other like-minded entrepreneurs. Reading a book is great, but having the ability to ask questions and receive answers from so many different perspectives and experiences is invaluable. Consider also:

  • Asking questions using the "ask a question" link
  • Using live help to get immediate answers
  • Using the search facility
  • Watching the live webinars from Jay (either live or on playback). These are a great source of knowledge
  • Reading posts from other members. One group of posts that you should be looking out for at the moment are the posts from a group of members who are aiming to make $1000 per month following some training from ambassador Bo Tipton (thanks Bo). The great thing here is that even if you are not one of the group, you can follow the training through the posts https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...

4. SOME INVESTMENT. You can start on this platform with nothing; create your website and gain the starting knowledge you need to point you in the right direction. You can then go on to succeed from there if you use all the other skills I have mentioned on this list. However, one 'shortcut' that you should consider is investing in your business and taking the premium membership which will allow you access to more training, more sites and many other tools which will help you achieve your goals faster and more easily because you will find the information all in one place (at WA). You should consider the monthly fee as the investment you are making in your business and yourself. And it will be far lower investment than if you were creating a traditional business. Upgrading to the yearly fee will reduce the monthly outgoings pressure and ultimately save you money too. If you are struggling to make the decision, think of it this way: many people will spend more on a daily coffee in a month than on their WA monthly premium fee, but the rewards of these two expenses will be very different in the long-term.

5. TIME. Do not underestimate the time that you need to put in in order to be successful. You need time to learn and time to apply your learning by writing your content and publishing it on your website. You will also need time to revisit your site regularly for maintenance things like:

  • updating SEO, plugins, themes etc
  • checking and updating external links
  • adding internal links to new content
  • keeping it fresh

How long this all takes you will vary from person to person depending on your starting knowledge, how you work and your personal situation. I tend to write mostly at night when my children are in bed but everyone is different and we will all fit in what we can, when we can. The more time you have, the better but you should also be careful how you spend your time: I love the platform for expression and connection here at WA and use it regularly but I also realise that the bulk of time available should be spent on 1) learning and 2) applying that knowledge by working on my site.

6. PATIENCE. The old adage that 'Rome was not built in a day' seems to be appropriate here. One of the questions that often gets asked here is 'how long will it take to make money?' and the answers are always in the form of months or years rather than weeks. However, than said, if you work consistently and have patience, then the rewards are there. You must remember that this is a business, YOUR business and that it will take time to get established and reap a return (which will be related to your effort and time put in). Some articles may rank quicker than others but overall, your site will need time to develop and be trusted, and that cannot be rushed so patience is really key to understanding the reality of the situation so that you can have realistic aspirations and achieve them.

Have a look at some of the great training and blogs below to get a better understanding:

7. RESILIENCE. Never give up! Whatever the world throws at you, there is always a way through it. There are many posts from people on here who have had set backs and not given up, only to find success further down the line. The ability to 'get up' again once you have fallen over is key. After all, where would we be now if we had given up trying to learn to walk as a child just because we fell over a few times? Get up one more time than you fall down, and your success is guaranteed!

8. COMMUNICATION SKILLS. In order to have a great website, we need to be able to communicate effectively but that doesn't mean we all need a degree in creative writing although I think that being able to write engaging content is a good skill to develop. What I think is important to remember is that we are all communicating all the time with colleagues, friends and family. It you approach writing for your website in the same, friendly and helpful vein, then this will go a long way to help you write good content. There are also many tools out there on the internet that can help you improve your writing skills be it a thesaurus, spell and grammar checker (available free through SiteContent) or a friend who can proof-read your content before/after you publish it.

Writing is one of my favourite things to do and I've previously written a couple of blogs to help with writing which be found here too:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...

and here are a couple more from other members:

Remember, we are in the business of answering the needs of our readers - CONTENT IS KEY so stick to that principle in everything you write but don't worry if you are starting out - practice will make you get better.

9. A DESIRE TO HELP. If you have the intention of helping others, then this will come through in your writing and your website will be useful and informative. This will help you get ranked because Google and other search engines are looking to rank content that is informative and useful over and above those that are just filled with affiliate links in the hope of making money. Helping people through the 'pay-it-forward' ethos here at WA will also help you to earn comment and feedback credits which you can then use to improve your site.

Gratitude will take you a long way too so thank you to Kyle and Carson for creating this site in the first place, and also to all the wonderful members here who make it the most amazing place.

10. DEDICATION. This word always reminds me of a children's TV programme that was on in the UK in the 1970s called "Record Breakers"when I was growing up. It was a programme about people who had dedicated themselves to something to such an extent that they had become the best in their field and broken records in sport, business, anything really and was linked to the Guinness Book of World Records. "Dedication's what you need; if you want to be a record-breaker" was sung by the presenter at the end of every show and his words ring true even today. In order to succeed here, you need to be in it for the long haul and realise that this is not a sprint but a long-term business investment that you are making. Dedicating yourself to it over and above other distractions (such as mindless TV, inane newspapers and sorting out your sock drawer) will lead to the results you seek.

You have or can develop all of the above - you are the creator of your own life and your own success - go get it!

I hope this helps. Have a great day everyone.

Gail

This is a great post, Gail. I love it! Thank you for the encouragement - and for such detailed information. It is truly inspiring to a newbie like me.

Hi Mishael. Thank you for reading the post and I'm glad that you found it useful and inspiring. My aim is to help people by offering my experience here so that others can learn by it. I hope you are having a great day and that you begin to see successes with your own site. Gail

Awesome stuff my friend! Can you please post this every day, like twice a day? There is so much opportunity and information here, and it is a blessing to have it at our fingertips.

My hope for people, especially those starting out, is that they take the initiative to do the work. It's not easy, it's not free, and it's not for others to do for you.

Learn, grow, bless others, and repeat. That's all I got. Peace Gail. :-)

Thank you Bob for your kind words and also for taking the time to read and reply. I think your advice to people stating out is also useful and I hope that they do as you suggest too. Hope you have a wonderful day. :) Gail

Gail,

What a great post! Good inspiration. I know the training here at WA works. I started in November and I just made my first sale on my website yesterday. It was only $1.44, but I was so excited. I know that I'm on the right path.

The 10 things you mention in your post are certainly things that make us successful.

Best of luck to you in all that you do!

Lisa

Thanks Lisa for your kind words and congratulations on making your first sale. That's brilliant as you only starting in November, great going. Thanks for reading and taking the time to reply. May this be the start of many more successes. Gail

Great informative and straight top the point. Got to love it and I don't think that i could've spelled it out any better. Focus, desire to succeed and determination also come to mind as i read your post . Great work Gail.

Thanks Xavier for your kind comments. And I agree that we could indeed add focus, desire to succeed and determination. All are important. Gail

If I had more coaching like this and especially coming from you it would be the greatest thing!

Thanks so much, Gail. Such great advice for us all but especially newbies.

Very Good Gail. One of my favorite quotes that Deb has all around the house on 3x5 cards: We will not be denied. Success is ours, Resistance, get behind us, period!
