Squaring up to Mount Everest!

Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain. Wikipedia states that the current official height of 8,848 m (29,029 ft), was recognised by China and Nepal in 2010, even though China measured the rock height at apparently 8,844m in 2005, with the extra 4m being snow at the top! But it IS the world's highest mountain and a good 237m higher than K2, the second highest, so my view is "who's counting?"

Officially, Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary were the first to reach the summit in 1953 after many unsuccessful attempts by other climbers over the decades. Since then, however, many have tried, some have succeeded and some have failed in their brave attempt to reach their 'pot of gold' at the summit.

Most of us will never even attempt this amazing feat; some of us dream of just getting to Everest base camp one day (I know I do) and some of us would rather have our toe nails extracted with a rusty old spoon! But whatever we think of the real Mount Everest, we undoubtedly face our own Metaphorical Everest in our daily lives at different times on our life's journey. Sometimes the enormity of the task at hand can cause us to feel overwhelmed, disheartened or simply just not know where or how to start.

However, the principles involved in getting to the top of the real Mount Everest can surely be a lesson for many of us at Wealthy Affiliate as we head towards our own 'pot of gold'. Now I don't claim to be a mountaineer by any stretch of the imagination, but it seems to me, there are some crucial principles involved here, that we could all remember, in our quest for financial and time freedom - especially when we sometimes feel we are faced with an endless uphill struggle with little reward for a lot of effort put in.

So what should we do when faced with our own Mount Everest? Here are some time-honoured basics that I'd suggest:

1. Plan effectively - set some goals and head towards them and don't bother if the path is a little twisted or turned along the way. No one gets from the bottom to the top in one go; they do it in stages, pausing to take a beat and breath several times along the way.

2. Train and learn the ropes from others who've gone before - in the case of Mount Everest, you would have to quite literally 'learn the ropes'(!) but in the case of Wealthy Affiliate, if could be following the training religiously, or seeking advice and learning the tips and tricks from the many helpful souls who are willing to offer it. If in doubt, ask!.

3. Start and then take one step at a time - No matter how high the mountain, you can get to the top if you just keep going. If you went up only 10 feet a day from sea level, it might take you nearly 8 years to reach the top of Mount Everest, but eventually you would reach your goal and get to the top of the world! (Assuming you could carry enough supplies etc, etc, - but you get the idea).

4. Never, ever give up on your goal. One quote I love which puts this quite simply is "Winners never quit, and quitters never win". And if you fall down (which we will all do at some point) - get up one more time than you fall, and you cannot fail to succeed.

So whatever your own Mount Everest is today, plan, have faith and remember, one step at a time will get you there! The view from the top will be worth it!

Wishing you all a lovely and productive week ahead.

Love Gail x

Love your post....I have only been a member for a week. From everything I am reading there is a lot of work ahead but also a lot of rewards if you are willing to put in the time....great motivation.

Thanks Lisa. I've been here for 2 months now and yes, there is such a lot to learn and take in. But I've loved every minute of the journey so far. All the best for your success here. Gail

What a wonderful analogy, Gail. Life throws us all kinds of "Everests" to climb and if we are luck we have the foreknowledge that they are coming and can plan for them, but even if we do not, we can get to the peak and be successful if we do the things you have outlined here. I think I really needed this today. I am so glad you wrote it

Thanks Anita - and as you know, the universe will bring you the things you really need! "Ask and it is given". I'm facing a mammoth challenge at the moment since I have to clear out my costume store and relocate it to my house in the next 10 days which was really the inspiration for my post! Currently my costumes are stored in a shed the size of a triple garage so that's going to be an interesting one - I'm currently looking for a Tardis! :) Have a great day.

I can picture it. I wish you all the best! You have a great week, too

This is a nice reminder whenever one is having any doubt that they cannot climb ( or do the task at hand) or they do not have the tools (help, guidance, mentors, and support).
Never doubt yourself

Thanks Maurice. Thank you for reading. Hope you have a great week.

Fantastic advice as usual Gail.

Cheers!
David

Thanks David. Have a great week.

I love your post and analogy Gail. It resonates so well. Here is my counterpart.

Like it - Thanks Mike. In the UK I've been watching a series called Blue Planet 2 which is truly amazing, showing how life can survive under incredible odds. But that never surprises me too much as I do believe everything is relative and what one person may think of as hell, is someone else's heaven! :) Have a great week Mike.

Thank you gail!

The nice part is we have all the gear we need. We just need match it with our efforts!
Thanks for sharing.
