Pay-It-Forward: Upload Your Images To Pixabay

I don't know about you, but I love Pixabay and the ease at which I can find royalty free images online so quickly.

But have you ever wondered who uploads the images we can use at Pixabay or at Wealthy Affiliate?

Well the answer simply is - anyone and everyone!

I was exploring Pixabay one day, and discovered that anyone can upload images to the communal site as long as:

1) You own the copyright for the images and are happy to upload them as copyright free

2) They pass the image guidelines, and

3) They are accepted by "the community".

Since I use many of the images of Pixabay every day for my blog posts, social media posts and icons, I thought I would 'pay-it-forward' in a different way and start uploading a few of my own images that others could use as well.

I often use the images from within SiteContent and this is a great resource here at WA, but I often go directly to Pixabay.com itself for an even greater selection.

Uploaded images

So far I have 3 images uploaded to Pixabay which I have done within the last couple of weeks, and these have already been viewed and downloaded a few times each.

I even received one appreciative comment from a user as well which was great.

Whilst this in no way benefits my personal business or earns me any money, I think it is a great way to help others and to share my own images for others to use.

You can also be part of 'the community' who accept and reject potential images too.

Success and failure

I've actually uploaded about 20 images, but most of those were rejected because they didn't meet the quality standards, and some were 'rejected by the community' too.

That just means that when you upload an image, it sits in 'PENDING' for a while until it has been passed by the quality people, then it gets passed to 'the community' for people to judge whether it is good to use on the site. If 10 people accept your image, it is accepted, but if 10 people reject your image, it is rejected.

At first I was a little put out since all of my first few images were rejected, but I could also see that many other images that I considered 'good' were being rejected too so didn't feel too bad.

Sometimes an image can get"8 x accepted, and 10 x rejected" but still ends up on the rejected pile.

No matter, I take a lot of photos so I'll upload new ones when I think other people can use them and see how I go.

Some people have uploaded thousands of image and to them, I want to say a massive "THANK YOU".

Buy a coffee

If you notice too, there is a small button on the Pixabay site that says "Coffee" which means that we all have the option of donating a few pennies (or lots of pounds) to the people who upload images to the site too by way of a 'thank you'.

And whilst this isn't my motivation for uploading the images, it's nice to think that one day, someone may buy me a coffee for taking the time to share my pictures.

You can access all these features by clicking under your image icon on Pixabay on the top right-hand side, when you've signed up.

Below is a screen print of my images dashboard at Pixabay. Look carefully at the top right-hand-side and you'll see the menu you need.

You can see the 3 images I have uploaded which have been accepted so far above, but I intend to upload more in the future because I love the images that I download from the site, and want to do my bit!

If you want to vet potential images, you can do so from the "QUALITY RATING" option under you profile. You can then accept or reject other people's images depending on whether you think they will be useful or not.

So go on - why not pay-it-forward, and upload some of your own images today?

Have a wonderful sharing day.

Hi, Gail thanks for the post. I'll look into pixabay for images as well. I use sitecontent a lot and sometimes it doesn't have what I need and I end up using my own or go elsewhere.

Kelyee

Thanks Kelyee. I find the same thing with SiteContent but find there are more images on Pixabay itself.

After I read your blog I noticed that SiteContent also have pixabay images too. I was like oh okay that's where the images came from.
:D

Haha - I don't think you'll be the only one! :)

Thank you for this great post and the information. I shall look into this and will upload some of my images. I, too LOVE Pixabay and am forever grateful to everyone who has shared their images for me to use freely.
Best,
Alenka

Thanks Alenka.

Thanks for the information Gail.

Derek

No problem Derek. Good to hear from you. Gail

I absolutely LOVE Pixabay. They do have some of the most beautiful, and some of the most helpful images. Of course, it depends on your topic. There are some pictures I cannot find on there, but overall, they are fabulous! My husband recently did an article on Parmesan Cheese, and I got pictures for him on Pixabay. He was absolutely stunned, and pleased, with the pictures. We use this every chance we get.

Also, you do not have to be a member to download pictures from Pixabay. I started downloading pictures a couple of years ago, and did not join at that time. I kind of forgot that I should join, based on the times I had used them. So I did recently join as a member. And I love to buy cups of coffee for contributors. It is a win-win for everyone. I also have considered submitting pictures, but have not really had the time to do so. Someday---

Thank You for highlighting Pixabay. Hopefully, more people will use it and buy cups of coffee! Of course, we can also get pictures here at WA, I think! I just tried to find where, but have forgotten. Have you tried any of the images from WA? Does someone know how to do this?

Hi Connie. You can use the WA images by using SiteContent and clicking on the image icon from within that platform.
But I think that WA have done a deal with Pixabay because the images are the same, although I think there are more on the Pixabay site itself so I use both.

Thanks for informing me AGAIN how to get pics from WA! I knew I had done it, but just could not remember how?? Interesting observation about the pics being the same between the two?? I will take a look later just out of curiosity! Take Care.

You too. I think that WA must have done a deal with Pixabay - just my feeling but it seems to make sense. It's not the core of WA business so it makes sense to pull in a partner for that part of it.

that's good to know, Gail. Thanks

Wayne

You're welcome Wayne. Good to hear from you. Gail

Nice work thanks for the info

You're welcome. Glad to help

That look like zinnias. A great place to show your petals and attribution, Gail!

Thank Mike.

Hi Gail,
Yes Pixabay is free to download and that's a good idea to download to and give donations even in a small amount.
Thank you for sharing

Cheers,
Jocelyn

Thanks Jocelyn. I agree. These things can only stay free to use if we all add a bit back too in whatever way we can.
Gail

That's a good help to everyone's business.

Indeed. It's the WA way! :)

Very informative! ... thanks kindly for sharing ... all the best for every success, cheerio... :)

You're welcome. Thanks for reading.
