My Interesting Experiences At Fiverr

Just thought I'd write to let you know of my 2 rather interesting experiences using Fiverr.com.

My First Experience

I have been following a few people here who have had some success selling guest blog posts on their niche sites through Fiverr so about 2 months ago, I set up a couple of gigs (the jargon for selling services on their site). One of the gigs advertised that I offered proofreading and copyrighting services and the other was for promoting other people though my site by allowing guest blogs.

Last weekend I received notification that I had sold my first gig - "hooray" I thought. It was for a series of 3 guest blogs in which the client would write the posts and I would publish them on my site with introductions and conclusions; and then post links to the articles on all my social media links giving the client a number of back links. My site has a domain authority of 21 at the moment and the price for this was $40.

I was really excited as there are literally hundreds of sellers on Fiverr offering similar gigs so was really pleased to get a sale.

However within 24 hours, the buyer had cancelled the gig saying that he thought that buying links was 'grey hat'. He was very nice about it and very apologetic but he still cancelled the gig which was disappointing.

I found his comment about buying links being 'grey hat' quite intriguing though and confess I had to look up what he meant. The definition of 'grey hat' is: "an expert who may sometimes violate laws or typical ethical standards, but does not have the malicious intent typical of a black hat hacker."

I think this is an interesting interpretation of selling guest posts myself but I'd like to know what others think.

My Second Experience

My second experience of Fiverr came just yesterday when I received another message via Fiverr from someone who was interested in my gig about copyrighting skills. This time, it was from a lady who said she worked for a magazine and was looking for a freelance writer to write some blogs.

Well to cut a very long story short, this lady turned out to work for a magazine in a town about an hour from me in the UK, who needs a freelance writer to cover someone on maternity leave.

I ended up going to meet with her today (we made it a day out with my girls) and she has given me 2 articles to write to start with. If I do well with these, then there will be more to write - between 4-5 articles.per month for at least 6 months. These are paid articles at £150 per article, which was a price I based on what I used to charge when I was a medical writer a few years ago.

I am not writing this post to brag at all, because I still have to write my 2 articles well in order to progress with this job, but I really just wanted to say that you never really know what is around the corner or how this business will turn out or where your income can come from. This work was totally unexpected, and much more than I could hope for from a gig starting at $5!

Not sure what this says about Fiverr either other than - EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!

If I had not joined WA, I would not have known about Fiverr or advertised on there. And this job would not have come my way.

As it is, I'm very surprised because I did not go looking for this job directly and had not heard of the magazine until I was contacted by the marketing lady.

Suffice to say though, I am thrilled. The subject matter is right up my street and I'm really looking forward to starting. If you know me, you'll know how much I love writing. :)

And finally . . .

One last point - many of you know too that my niche site is about the law of attraction and how we can create the things we want in life using the power of our focus and intention. In February I wrote a post about giving up my job in mainstream education for a number of reasons and I left the school in April. I wanted to have more time to write and teach in a different environment which I thought was more holistic than the one I was currently in.

Again, cutting a very long story short, I was also recently contacted by a small private school who had seen my profile online, and now have a part-time job with them starting in September, for more money, fewer hours and in a school which is helps children on the autistic spectrum achieve their potential - again, right up my street.

So I have been amazed at how the universe has brought me 2 jobs that I know I will love - seemingly from 'out of the blue'. Not sure why I should be 'amazed' - I really mean, "I believe!"

What a wonderful world this is.

Wishing you all success with your own businesses. Have a wonderful day/evening.

And I'd love to hear your comments on these experiences.

Gail

God answers prayers. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Law of attraction is working for you. Keep on doing what you are doing. There will be lots more to come. All the best.

Totally agree and thank you Delores. :) Have a great day. Gail

That’s great news, so happy for you! Cora

Hi Cora. Good to meet you on here and thanks for your encouragement. Gail

You’re welcome ! Cora

Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you will find inside.

Someone used to tell me:
If you don't try, you will never know.

I think the first one with the grey hat things is a little weird, I believe he knew what he was into, anyway better forget it.
You will meet a lot of people like him on your long journey.

Congratulations on your progress.

Wish you the best.

Calvin

Thanks Calvin. Interesting about the grey hat thing too as he said he was an internet marketing expert! :) Oh well, as you say. Move on and it all worked out in the end. :)

Congratulations! ... synchronicity at its best ... keep on going with it all ... cheerio... :)

Love that word - synchronicity. Thanks Keisha

That's all wonderful, Gail. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.
And, I am a great believer in the Law of Attraction. We can either block it, or attract it.
Well done to you :)

Thank you Valerie. All the best to you too. Gail

Thanks Ravi. I appreciate your reading. Gail

I'm very happy for you Gail, especially navigating the twists and turns at 5er. I'm going to put them on my A list for copywriting gigs too. Upwork as well!

Thanks Mike. I've not started with Upwork yet but will investigate. Fiverr have started a "Pro" level now too but you have to pass certain criteria to qualify.

Nice to see positive happenings from online ventures with any platform.

Thanks Jared. Gail

It sure is amazing how these opportunities just come about, but by being in the right places, they can. I am pleased for you about the 2 jobs.

Thanks Eden. I think you hit the nail on the head about being in the right place at the right time. Thanks for your comment. Gail
