Keys To Success - Take Small Steps To Improve

Some people think that to improve things, you need to make massive changes to what you are doing; 'throw the baby out with the bathwater' or generally just tear everything up and start again.

Whilst this maybe beneficial in some cases, the general wisdom nowadays is that to improve something in the long run, all you need to do is change a few small things every day - i.e.. try to improve things by 1% per day or per week and soon you will see massive changes.

An athlete does not go from running the 100m in 16 seconds to less than 10 seconds overnight. They make small improvements to their techniques, training and diet so that over time, their personal best time improves bit by bit, until they reach their goal.

So if you are sitting there thinking about how to improve your site, or your life in general - then start with something small. Commit to changing or improving something by 1% today and then another 1% again tomorrow, and see what you have achieved in a week.

It could be as simple as:

  • Write 200 extra words today for an unpublished blog
  • Tidy a cupboard
  • Research something for an hour
  • Improve the menu on your site
  • Research some affiliate programs
  • Add some alt. text to the images in one blog
  • Throw out the clothes that don't fit you
  • Create a new banner
  • Hoover your room
  • Fix that shelf
  • Check the links on one of your blogs
  • Work for an extra half an hour on your site today

Whatever you do for your personal or business life - don't think you have to change the world - just try to do it 1% better today than you did yesterday.

Simple advice but very true.

Wishing you all a great day.

Gail

This is very wise Gail...for example, I have torn out a page from a popular magazine that's reporting some info about a topic I wrote on. I intend to simply update the post with this reference, a short quote and a link.
I also bought a related product and can include a review and an amazon link.
Then I can submit the updated post to Site Comments!
Regards.

Sounds like the perfect thing to do today!

I Agree take small steps a little at a time.

Thanks Dave

I like it great advice. I tend to bite off more than I can chew a lot of the times but it's ok I end up getting it done at some point.

Haha - me too. Thanks for reading and leaving a comment. All the best to you. Gail

When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It's to enjoy each step along the way.

Absolutely. And I do love to dance! :)

Gail,

Thank you for the reminder! Sometimes those big tasks and our own expectations can be overwhelming.

Doing the small things often, rather the big things occasionally are the way for me.
All the best
Nick

Thanks Nick. It's the little things that add up to the big things, isn't it? Have a great day. Gail

Exactly right, Gail!

Love it. At this time of year we all reflect on the year past and what might have been (what you hoped WOULD have been!!). It is easy to get into a rut and ask yourself what the heck you need to do to achieve your goals next year.

Slowly slowly catchy monkey is exactly the way. Thanks for the reminder Gail.

Have a great day. Lovely sunshine here in Devon.

Thank you. Lovely sunshine here in the Surrey Hills too - but not for too long. Still - can't grumble! :) Have a great day too.

Every day at least something is added or improved.

Good plan!

Gail,
Thank you wonderful advise and I do need to follow it
I am worst at procrastinating when it comes to doing
things around the house - going to have to try a little at
a time each day beginning today - it is overwhelming to
me at times.
Thank you,
Susan

I totally know how you fee. I'm off now to clear my garden in the window of 3 hours I have before it rains again.
No time like the present eh?!

It's nice to see you back here at WA

Hi Alex. Back yes - a bit hit and miss still but trying to spend a few minutes each day! :)
Have a good one. Gail

Thanks Gail, you too :)
Alex

That is really good advice Gail and it makes it managable for anyone feeling overwhelmed. Thanks, Cass

Glad you like it and thanks for taking the time to reply.

You're welcome:)
