If you always do what you've always done
Most of us know this old adage:
If you always do what you've always done
You'll always get what you always got
It's meaning is quite simple:
If you want something to CHANGE, then you have to DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
You cannot expect to get different results or outcomes by doing the same thing.
And I will go further,......
You definitely cannot expect to get different results by just by trying harder at doing the same thing!
If you're shooting a wooden arrow at a wall expecting to knock it down, and it isn't working, then just by pulling harder on the bow string will not bring a different result. Maybe you need to look for the crack in the wall, or change the arrow head, or put down the bow and arrow and buy a battering ram!
The point being, is that if we are focused on repeatedly doing the same thing, expecting different results, we will be waiting a long time.
I retweeted this from twitter today and I love it: (Thanks Ray)
So ask yourself this question today:
What can YOU do differently?
That does not mean that we should give up writing posts if we have written 20 posts for our site and we feel that we have not got any traffic or the conversions you were hoping for as yet. After all, CONTENT IS KING! But maybe, just maybe, we could look to see if we have missed something in the writing or marketing of our posts that if we changed, would change our outcome significantly.
For example, could you:
- Revise or research better keywords
- Send your posts to different groups
- Change the hashtags you use on Twitter
- Create a different pinboard on Pinterest
- Write in a different style: more formal, less formal, more conversational
- Use more/better images
- Create some more specific and relevant images
- Change or relook at your theme
- Change or refresh your adverts
- Research a different affiliate program
- Add a video
- Make a video
- Add more internal/external links
- Use more open questions
- Add a Call To Action button or revise the one you have
These are just a few of the things you could change or at least, review. When you think about it, there are quite a lot of things that we could CONSIDER CHANGING in the attempt to gain a better outcome. It's got to be worth a try, hasn't it?
What do you think?
I'd love to know if you make some changes today and see a different outcome. Share your ideas and successes below.
All the best,
Gail

I am trying to adapt to so many methods that it boggles the mind to realize that it is an enormous amount of information that we must absorb. Therefore, , personally speaking, I am winging it like that Skywalker brother of mine in Heaven. Sometimes, just altering a word or two changes the message we are projecting. I am a firm believer in , what is my intent, approach with each post and blog that I attempt. Hope this expands a bit on what you are asking. Thanks Gail, you always rock!
Xav.
Thanks Xavier. Glad to know you are approaching your work with a firm and clear intent. That will always help. Thanks for your kind words too. :) Have a fun day. Gail
Excellent post, Gail with some great suggestions. Haha, love the cat picture. It really drives home your point.
Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome. Cats are fabulous - they can teach you so much. It's not my cat by the way. Mine would be facing away from the door!
Another excellent post Gail. True Story! Alex left Einstein's quote before I had a chance...'cause that's exactly what I was thinking. I love the kitty facing the door. If only there was another solution :-D
Thanx for your wise words and a chuckle all in one!

Haha - that's a case of great minds......but am I talking about Alex or the cat?! Have fun today. Gail
Oh wow, now you have given a whole list of things to try. All very constructive. Will be writing the list down and go through it gradually.
Hi Gail, great post, as usual.
If I may, I would add the following definition:
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Best regards,
Alex
Hi Alex. Thanks for your kind words and yes, I totally agree. I like your definition. Have a great day. Gail

Trying new ways is always good. However I'm still too new to the business so I add rather than change. In a couple months I may know IF I need to change things.
That's good too Goran. First we need to have something to revise! :) Good luck today. Gail
