Happy Halloween/Samhain and Wiccan New Year
Hello lovely WAers
I hope you are having a fantastic week so far.
Today is Halloween, a late autumn celebration with ancient roots that stretch back over 2,000 years to the Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced Sow-in). This was the time when people believed the veil between the living and the spirit world was at its thinnest, and they lit bonfires and wore costumes to ward off wandering souls.
Many people still do that today, and my daughters have both spent 2 hours doing their makeup and hair to celebrate around town with their friends.
But did you know that in many Wiccan traditions, Samhain is still honoured today as a spiritual New Year β a time for reflection, release, and setting intentions for the cycle ahead. And in the Christian tradition, it marks All Hallows Eve, with All Saints' Day being tomorrow on November 1st.
Whether you see it as a night of spooky fun or a sacred turning of the year, itβs a powerful reminder of the natural cycles of life, death, and renewal.
AND...
You can celebrate things like this with your readers and audience, which is why I've made this little video to say 'Happy Halloween, Samhain and All Hallows' Eve" to you all.
I hope you like it.
Gail
How I made the video
I made this video solely on Canva and used:
- Stock video footage using the search bar, e.g. Halloween, sunset, haunted house
- Text with a font called Barriecito - adding simple animations to bring the text on and off screen
- AI Music from within Canva - I created two different tracks and then just faded one out and one in
- A sound effect of a thunderstorm, which I copied and used twice
It took about an hour because I kept getting up to answer the door to the trick or treaters!! LOL
If you haven't started using Canva for creating short videos and intros... now's the time to start... the spirits are with you, and I don't mean the brandy!
All the best
Gail

Love it Gail... but I always believed this celebration went back over five or six thousand years ago in the old days!!!
Nevertheless... I have had a blast on the streets this evening handing out sweets to all who come and want them!!
Seen some fantastic costumes as well.... I didn't really dress up this year personally, but.... I managed to scare some of the youngsters anyway!!!

Haha Nick - I'm sure you are correct. It's probably prehistoric in some quarters! Bit like I feel today.
I usually do a lot for Halloween, but it's been a bit of a mad week, so I'm sitting here catching up on work and playing with my new kittens.
I've always had a black cat, but my last one died last year, and I've only just found his replacement, just in time for Halloween.
I won't get into specifics but it did indeed go back a few thousand years Gail!!
Beautiful looking kitty's you have there... I do miss my cat's... we had 12 at one point when I grew up on a farm....
Can't do that in an apartment in the city, although my pup lives like a princess though! :-)
Mysti and Marmalade look really sweet and happy and comfortable. You should be feeling relaxed just looking at them.
I love Mysti and Marmalade!
I have a black cat, too, named Ivy. This is here in the window.

This is lovely - thank you, Gail. And thank you for explaining how you created the video. I've never used video in Canva - but I believe it is possible even with the free version. I will look into this and give it a try soon.
You are right - tonight is the perfect time to set intentions for the coming month as well as the remaining two months of this year.
Have a great evening.
Isabella
Ah, thanks Isabella. Glad you liked it. I use the Β£20 Canva but you can still use it for free - it just helps with saving on the premium videos if you have the paid version. But you could still just use the premium videos if you just wanted to practice making test pieces that you aren't going to publish. Or use pexels as they have a lot of free stock videos.
Have a good evening yourself. I'm staying in with my two new kittens, Mysti and Marmalade. They're so cute!

Thanks, Gail. I love your video! So cool :) Did you write the poem? Nice.
Happy All Hallows Eve and New Year!
Teri
Yes I did with no AI. I like writing poetry.
Love it, Gail!
Teri
