Expect the unexpected - My first paying website commission

Hello all you lovely WAers. I hope you are keeping well and safe at this time.

Just wanted to let you know that I have recently received my first paying job to create a website for my current school, which I'm over the moon about. I've been here for a couple of years and the reason I joined was, like many of us, to make some extra money in my own time and on my own terms.

Little did I know how joining WA was going to change my life, and bring many opportunities that I could only dream of a few years ago, with most of them, totally out of the blue too - who could have predicted the road ahead?

Now, I'm not going to say (yet) that I have made my fortune or I've retired and am living in the South of France in a chateau (although that's still a dream!) What I am going to share though, it that the way I have made money from WA is not at all how I first imaged I would, but I can completely attribute thousands of pounds or extra income a year to the things I've learned here and my decision to dedicate time and effort in the pursuit of my online business dreams.
You see, originally, I was convinced that I would cash in on the affiliate marketing boom and create some great sites where people would click my affiliate links and the money would pour in. I confess, that I have yet to achieve anything like that on my sites.
However, what I have done, is to create 2 sites that I'm proud of; dedicated lots of time to writing, and learned a lot about creating websites and online businesses. I've had some success with getting referrals but I've learned that there are so many more ways to make money working from home than I first thought. And I bet there are many people out there now, who are coming to the same realisation as they scour the internet for opportunities that they can create themselves.

For me, by far the biggest money spinner I have had from joining WA is getting a job as a professional article writer for a monthly magazine - something I got from learning about outsourcing and marketing myself on Fiverr. And I'm pleased to say that I've now been writing regularly for the magazine for the past 18 months, and I love it. True, I'm not writing on my own website so often, but I am getting a regular income from my writing job, which is what I wanted in the first place.

And now, I have just received my first paying commission to build a website for someone else - again, nothing to do with affiliate marketing, but everything to do with having learnt new skills and applying them.

So my message to you today is this:

Expect the unexpected, because you never know what good things will show up when you least expect them!

I should say that one of my niche sites is about the law of attraction, so I try to set my goals and then let the universe do its bit.....seems to be working for me so far, so who am I to mess it up?!

Have a lovely rest of the week. I'll let you know when I've created my new site.

Wishing everyone health, wealth and happiness.

Gail

Gail what a great post,
Often we can make our goals, we can put things in place, only to find that those original goals may not be met but unexpected benefits as a result of following this action does.
So it’s not a fail it’s simply the universe showing you a better and alternative option.

I mean who on earth could have predicted this current roadblock....(for some a silver lining) , it’s just perspective👍

Totally agree - perspective is everything! I consider this a 'well-earned period for introspection and planning my next steps - and I'm really loving not having to go into the office any more!!! :)

Like you Gail I am loving not being at work so much (we have a reduced working week, still go to work two days) I am already dreading the return to normal hours...🙄

Need to crack on with my alternative life, 👍

Glad to see you back, Gale. Thanks for the encouragement some of us still needed the boost. 🙂

Thank you. And good to see you again too. I'm happy to keep positive and help wherever I can. All the best. Gail

Wow, Thanks for letting us know about your success. I was ecstatic to hear you have turned outsourcing on Fiver into a gig writing for a magazine. That is impressive - well done.

Alex

Thanks Alex - yes, it's one of my favourite jobs now. Hope you are well. Gail

Very well! there is so much you can make money from online, kudos to you, I join WA just 4 months now, and I have 4 clients in waiting for websites, Covid 19 have it on hold, what I did, is go around to small businesses that doesn't have a site and pitch the offer to them at a reasonable price. so I really like what I read here, thank for the words of encouragement.

That's great Earl - good for you. Create your own life and your own work - there's no limit to that! Have fun. Gail

It is good to see that you are putting your knowledge to work. It will not be long before you take the experience you are gaining to become an even greater success story from WA. Best of luck to you.
Jerry

Hi Jerry. Great to see you again. Hope you are keeping well and working (not) too hard! :)
Thanks for your kind comments too. All the best. Gail

I have been inactive for the better part of a year due to heart surgery and paralysis but I am now starting to make a comeback. I am having to relearn everything in order to be successful. Thanks
Jerry

Well I wish you well with your comeback - I've not been around much here either, but I've been working on my sites and magazines although I've missed everyone!
Good to hear you are on the mend.
