Every day can be a new beginning

Easter represents a new beginning for many people who follow the Christian faith but you don't have to be a Christian to feel that this time of year is a good time to start something new. Spring also represents starting afresh and for eons, people have looked to nature and the resurgence of flowers in spring to give them hope that better things are to come.

Easter is over now, and in the northern hemisphere at least, we are looking forward to warmer days, increasing hours of sunlight, and if we are alert and aware, we can notice the blossom on the frees and the world appearing to come back to life.

The truth is though that life has never gone away. In the southern hemisphere now, autumn is setting in and the trees will begin to lose their leaves as they settle down for the winter rest. You see life is continuous and cyclical, so it doesn't really matter where on the wheel you are, you are still alive and experiencing it.

So my message to everyone today is short and sweet - every day can be a new day for you to start something new, do something differently and change your future.

Many of us will think about the things we would like to do and then come up with a list (usually a long one!) of things that we need to do first, problems that might arise, and reasons why we should wait before starting it. Many of us are perfectionists who feel that everything has to be "just right" before we set about our plan. The problem with this is that it usually holds us back from ever starting in the first place.

One of my favourite quotes is the one that says:

"If you always do what you've always done,

You'll always get what you always got!"

It's such a simple thing but it's so true. If we don't change anything in the way we live our lives, the way we think, or the things that we do, how can we ever hope to get a different result?!

Like I say to my children sometimes: if you follow the recipe for an omelette, you're not going to end up with a chocolate cake!"

Start today!

You can use any day of the year to start to change your life and change your future. It does not have to be a day of great religious importance, an aligning of the stars, or when you get a message from the universe saying "do it now". You can take this blog as that if you'd like to!

What is important is that you wake up each day and realise that you can change whatever you want to, starting today. Sure, the results may take a little time to materialise, but that's OK. You've got time too. Just make your commitment to start something new and stick to it. And it even doesn't matter if you fall off the wagon occasionally too - just start again, and again until you achieve your goal.

  • It could be you want to write more articles; then make a commitment today to write for at least half an hour.
  • You might want to improve your health and fitness; then start today by going for a 20-minute walk.
  • You could want to clear your overgrown back garden to create a new area to enjoy; then start today and fill one garden sack with rubbish.
  • You might want to get a new job but know you need some more experience or qualifications; then commit to doing some research today and make a shortlist of courses you could do.

Whatever you want to achieve today, start something that will lead you one step towards your goal. And then do something else again tomorrow. Before you know it, you will have reached your goal and you will have done it the easy way!

All the best in whatever you want to do today.

Great post, Gail! Taking one baby step after another in the direction of our goal brings us closer to its accomplishment. Little consistent steps will turn our ideas into reality and break the force of inertia.

Hi Dada
Good to meet you and glad you like the ideas conveyed. Small steps lead up the mountain and are much easier to manage!

I like the quote; turn ideas into reality.
Great advice, thank you.

Hi Muslimah
Good to meet you and thanks for reading. Glad you liked the quote and all the best with whatever you decide to do today.
Thanks
Gail

Very true. Insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result.

If we want change, we must do things differently.

It's the way of evolution!

Great post! The only way to accomplish anything is by taking that first step and starting! I love the way you have broken it down into manageable tasks.

Hi Lisa
Good to meet you and I hope you are well today. All big goals can be broken down into smaller tasks and it really helps people make progress. Sometimes the enormity of a task is just too much to see the way through so small tasks are the way forward.

Great to meet you! Doing well thanks!

Yes and every big goal should be broken down into actionable tasks! Small steps lead to big success! 😃

I certainly do have enough to do, just by following my schedule!

I've liked to say, "Every day is a new little life." It seems to me to be a good way to emphasize the fresh start idea.

I like that one too Fran - always happy to welcome a new little life!
