Hi, maybe I haven’t gone far enough through the training, but i’ve Tested site speed and I’m only getting a score of 24/100 for mobile (90/100 for desktop). H

I'm assuming you've read the lastest post from Kyle regarding improving site speed. I know that SiteContent is supposed to optimize all images for mobile, but for some reason I've found myself in the same boat as you where my images were to blame.

When you click on the G for details on your speed, it should tell you which images are possibly to blame for your website slowenss. I'd recommend using tinyjpg to shrink those images. They do offer a plugin, but I normally just go directly to the website, run the optimizer, and upload the modified image to wordpress, and replace the existing image with the opitimzed one. This has fixed my problem in the past.

I'm still not 100% sure why it happens. Maybe it's a case of using images from outside the ones provided by SiteContent. I'm not really sure, but this tool should help you fix your issues.

Hi Jennifer, I'm so glad that it's not only me! Lol. Yeah, I'll have a go at using that app to shrink the images, before optimizing, and see how it goes.
I have a feeling that sitecontent will only optimize the images when you click on the publish button, and that sitespeed doesn't actually change the individual images. Would that be true?
I've only added one blog article and in the training, they don't ask you to add images until after about the 3rd article, so I've added the images after having published it.
Thanks for that info!

I'm not 100% if the issue may have to do with where the images come from. I've posted a few articles some of which use images from the free resource associated with SiteContent, and the rest have come from either Dreamstime or images I took myself. It seems like the latter are the ones that don't get optimized, although I thought for sure by adding them into the post in SiteContent it would. Unless it could be a glitch. Only Kyle and Carson can answer to that.

If you're adding images directly via WP, you definitely need to optimize beforehand. TinyJpg has a plugin that should do it for you, but I haven't tested that functionality yet.

Hi Drew, 90/100 that is pretty good, my mobile is about 50. Good suggestions below. All the best.

Hey Michael, yeah I thought 90 was pretty good, but I've gone back to the sitespeed settings now and changed it from accelerated to extreme. That brought my mobile speed right up to 86! The desktop version is now at 98.

Hey Drew,
Site Speed should do this automatically.

Tried and True

Elaine

Thanks for the Elaine. I had activated sitespeed already before finding the test result, and that was why I asked the question. I went back after reading the replies here and changed the setting from accelerated to extreme. That made a huge change!

Hey Drew! .. Super questions -- here's a recent blog by Carson, WA co-owner on WA going mobile ready -- more updates coming this fall season -- enjoy the read, cheerio... :)

Thanks for that Keishalina. That's good to know.

Hey Drew!

If you host your site on WA, when you activate siteSpeed this is handled for you.

If you want to handle it yourself you can Google it and find some tips. I would also look into caching plugins.

Do not use both siteSpeed and the plugins at the same time because they conflict.

Hope this helps,
Marlinda

Thanks for that Marlinda. I tried a few different things on the website like image sizes, and tested the speed but there were no changes. When I changed sitespeed from accelerated to extreme it changed the speed significantly, from 90 to 98 for desktop and from 24 to 86 on mobile. What a difference!
