Project Manage Your Way to a Great Website

I thought I would try to be creatively on-topic and foster positivity.

Steps to Content

Someone posed a question to me one day, how I was able to put together the volume of information I have developed for my website. Hmm? Without thinking about it, it just happened. Well, of course not, it was more than spontaneous creation. How do you explain this construction to someone just starting out with a new website, perhaps with nothing more than their domain and one blog? When looking at a site that has been up a year or more, it can be daunting to imagine the steps it takes.

Become the Professional

The Rookie question is "how/what do I write about" or "how can I write that much." It would be nice if website creation worked that way. When I complained about how difficult it was to play the piano, my teacher would say "if it were easy everyone would do it." Right! Exactly! Remember you are developing a skill, and like every other skill, you will become the professional, the expert. Develop this mindset and take that with you every day. You don't just scribble words and nonsense; you are developing an expert tool of information users will seek out as a reference.

Starting or Stuck - Organize and Focus

Until you know what you want to achieve, you'll have no way to start. A good niche is the first step in developing the outline of your project. Let's pretend our niche is parenting (just go with me here). We start out knowing what we want to achieve - a baby. OK, grade school covered the "how to start" part! When you first found out that you were going to have a baby was it time to kick back and watch television until nine months passed, then run out and find someone to help have the baby? I'm sure not. The minute you decide you want a baby you start the planning. You find a doctor and hospital through reading and research; you pick out colors for the baby's room by bringing home samples and reading up on the greatest colors for the baby's room. You looked up the common baby ailments and sought advice from other parents. You make decisions about the best way to feed the baby. You find out what supplies need to be brought to the hospital and pack a bag. By the time the little bundle of joy arrives you are a baby expert, oops - parent - or so you think. The baby sets you straight!

Approach your niche in this manner. You are no longer a novice here or mere blogger. You are the project manager of your website. Attitude determines altitude. There are no short cuts. Create something magnificent.

Thank you.... Happy Holidays

Hi Michelle, this is such a perceptive, helpful post! Many thanks, Sue :)

good post

Excellent post Michelle, nothing happens by itself, at some point we all need to plan act and do. Thanks for the motivation.

Hey, thanks for stopping by and commenting!

This is a most excellent post and so true. Creativity and step by step continuity of innovation when performed timely and consistently will often appear as spontaneous to those who do not understand how much blood, sweat and tears actually went into the creation of a thing.

Most Excellent, Michelle!!

Thank you Honey Bear

Hi Bear, I totally agree! Consistency, continuity and creativity are powerful tools, but they need to be driven by a flexible mindset and firm focus on your goal! Have a great weekend, Sue :)

Very well said, Sue. You have a great weekend as well.

Thank you, Michelle :)

Many good ideas to include in our work load.

This is great advice and should get people thinking outside the box instead of being overwhelmed by the big picture.

This is really a great post because even I didn't think that way and you just gave a quick example.

Great great job

Thank you, I'm very happy you found it valuable and liked the parenting example :)
A memory from my PM days.
