Trying to Stay Balanced

Two more weeks with this weight and encumbrance on my left leg. It has been 2 months so far since first rupturing my achilles tendon while walking on the beach with my dear hubby.

In that time I have had 4 ultra sounds and numerous visits to the doctor. The total cost before we are finished is going to be around $6000 and there are still no guarantees that it will be right.

. What I have learned through all this is that not all who call them selves a specialist have earned the right to be so. They charge ridiculous fees but do little to justify them.

The first orthopedic surgeon I saw had his assistant see me first. She said I am here to check your wound. I had to tell her 3 times that I had not had surgery and there was no wound. After some time the specialist came in to see me, asked her to takeoff the cast then declared it was not my achilles but my calf muscle.

He had not read any of the reports from the referring doctor or sonographer and made his assessment on a visual examination only, just looking at the back of my legs.

The sonographer was annoyed when I went back and told him what had happened and he then proceeded to show me with a comparison of both legs on the ultra sound where I had extensive damage and a total rupture of the achilles tendon.

I then went to another orthopedic surgeon who knew her job well and could justifiably charge accordingly. She insisted on surgery as soon as possible to repair the damged leg. That surgery will take place in 1 week from now and following that I will have 2 more weeks in a cast then a moon boot for 8 to 10 weeks.

I am very nervous about the whole deal but realize it is a relatively short time out of my life to ensure I have two working legs. .The big question I have been asking myself is "do I really need an achilles tendon?'" When it ruptures like this it has to be the most painful experience imaginable and perhaps I should just live without it.

I titled this blog staying balanced. The illustration here clearly shows it is difficult to remain balanced with a great weight on one side.

Folks at WA this can apply to many other aspects of life.

Is your work and life /balance comfortable?

To get balance into our lives we need to get the weight right and evenly distributed. .

Are you like my odd legs, trying to maintain a good work /life balance when it is all weighted one way?

Staying like this too long can throw many other things out of whack too. We need to keep a good balance in everything we do.

It is often difficult to get it right but if we don't the consequences can be more difficult.

Can you tell me if you have had a similar experience and what was the outcome?
