Hi guys, I need some simple IT advice. It has been pointed out to me that I don't have a menu bar for my website http://agamblerinrecovery.siterubix.com/ so any help/ assistanc

This might help with your Dyslexia! https://www.jacquette.com/easy-eyes-create-dyslexia-friendly-web-experience/

Thanks Mr Kearns. I do write in short, sharp sentences already, and I do try to use bold lettering before italic or underlining.
Very useful article. More people should take heed!

Create Menu, and make it active menu. Then go to Appearance, Pages, Add to Menu, Save. The same you can do for Posts if you wish some of them to appear as 'pages' in the main menu.

Once in Menu, which you will see on the right, drag and drop items where you want.

See more for Posts in my training For Pages it is similar.

Thanks. I did make an attempt at creating a menu. I have dyslexia so sometimes I miss the salient points, but thanks again.
Francis

You can go to the white base at the top of the page and put in a few words of your question and you will find multiple postings that you can check out. That is a great resource.

Thanks, I'm getting a lot of good response and answers everywhere. Thank you young lady!

You are so welcome. This is the best part about this program, the 24/7 response. Someone is always UP.

Well it is midday here in the U.K. Yes, the help and support is just fantastic.

I am in South Carolina. I usually get started by 5:00 in the morning. I am a morning person.

I believe that S.C. Is a very nice part of the world. I'm a morning person also, unlike my partner who could be a night owl if she let's herself go.

Authoring & Writing Content

I have no clue about how one goes about this, so best thing to do is to ask the best online family.

Where do you go to write an eBook? Thoughts and comments are really a

Just started writing one myself, so I get where you are. My best advice is write it first, then edit. Once you are happy with it, then you can worry about getting it published (if that's the route you want to go), creating a cover, marketing, etc. But to focus on that all at first is just too daunting... just go step by step and start with just writing :)

Oh, and I'm just writing mine in Google Docs (make sure you save copies in multiple places!)

And how are you getting on with your story? Do you find it frustrating that Google Docs doesn't allow for regular page breaks?

It's coming along. I wrote four pages today (it won't be long, probably only 30 pages). I do find it annoying, lol, but I know that I have to go back and edit and reformat everything, so I'm not even going to worry about it right now. I'm just using Google Docs to get the content out, then I will go back and fix everything later

I agree that Google Docs can be frustrating, but like you I just want to get the content down before going for the full eBook experience.

I think that is the best way to do it :o) Good luck to us on our ebook writing experiences!!!

Can't agree more with you Jasmine. If I may ask, what is your story about?

My story is related to my niche (breastfeeding support), so it's about the struggles I had with breastfeeding my son and how we got through it :)

Great for you! Both in terms of your struggles and your success. Having a niche that is so personal will reflect going forwards, as I've had so many positive comments regarding my posts and website. :)

Thank you! I have experienced success with it, not just in affiliate marketing, but also in helping other moms, which is very rewarding :) I was just looking at your sites and yours are very personal, as well. I understand the positive comments because your story is very personal and relatable and people like to hear from someone who has gone through their own struggles and come out a better person. You showcase that on your sites :)

Thank you Jasmine. I'm passionate about my recovery, and I'm sure it shows, with all the comments I've been getting. Hence why Ilm glad you are being personal, and this individuality will bring others to you. And in time you, like me, would be able to benefit from our posts. :)

Your passion most definitely shows! I am sure that I will :) this is why I love blogging, because we can connect with and help others :)

Thanks, I'm glad the passion is there!
Blogging should be personal don't you think? I have a friend on here, and it feels like we have been buddies for years, as opposed to weeks, We are blogging about totally different areas, but we just seem to gel as friends.
It has been lovely to hear from you Jasmine! :)

I agree! It should be from your own experiences that you are writing.
I know what you mean, I've made some friends here who, even though I've never seen them face to face, have been so supportive and helpful!
It's been great talking with you, Fran! I'm glad I commented on this question. I've gotten a great conversation out of it :)

Likewise Jasmine. The support on here just astounds me daily. I never would have thought that I could connect with so many diverse and interesting people.
I'm also glad of our chat. Feel free to PM me anytime you like. And if I may be bold in asking what you have gotten out of our conversation? :)

The support is amazing! Just had a question answered that solved a big problem I was having! I will take you up on that offer! If I ever need help with writing a personal post, I will be asking for you help!
I feel that I have gotten a lot of good information (about ebooks and the effect of having a personal niche) out of this conversation, but most importantly I feel I have gotten a new friend :)

Hi Fran,
I wrote an ebook that I use to grow my email list.
I used Openoffice ( on Mac) and I simply converted it into a pdf file but I am sure there must be other ways to do so.
I used Adazing to create the cover for free.
http://www.adazing.com/cover-mocks/
It's possible to get everything done for free so unless you want to get a real professional result (because you want to sell it) you shouldn't invest any money.
Takes some time though and I know a lot of people are outsourcing but it's not free ofc.
Good luck with it!
Angélique

Hi Angelique! Pleasure to meet you firstly, and what a fascinating back story you have. I travel to Belgium a few time a year, as the good lady "needs" cigarettes from near Veurne. We then go into the town for an omelette and possibly a crepe. Delicious. And now beautiful Barcelona.

Right, I'm starting off using Google docs, to begin with. I'm not looking to publish just yet, but who knows how well it goes.
How many pages do you/ did you write for your eBook.
I'm maybe looking at a simple eBook to give away, and then the 'Big" book to sell, but not sure yet.

Anyway, thanks for writing back. Oh, and I'm following you now. :)

Funny, I was just on this website, and have gotten a few ideas already. Thanks for your help!

Good question I am very curious to where this goes

And why are you curious? I was told that my "story" could be a good read, so being brave for once, I'm going to do it.
But thank you for the message, and I hope that curiosity will lead to you developing some ideas too :)

I guess what I should have said is that I like your question and I think it would be interesting to what others have to say. Thanks for the Post

I've recently been asking questions, writing posts that have sparked a lot of chat from others. I'm very grateful that you wrote, and yes getting ideas from other people does make you think.
As I say, there is more than one way to skin a cat. And if there was no curiosity in life, where would we be?

For e book, I would Suggest PDF format which is possible in MS word or software like Coral Draw.
One word of caution from my experience, if you are using MS word, be careful with your headings and fonts and highlight them well . Secondly use images with resolution of 300 when compressed in PDF, it retains a good visual effect, And for Tables be careful to place in one page.

The rest details , go to the link below and see for yourself.

https://www.shoutmeloud.com/apps-create-ebook.html

It helped me a lot.

Thanks. Have you therefore written an eBook, and in what area/ niche?
I'm using Google Docs. Page breaks there are an issue however. I will look at that page now.
Thanks again, Francis.

Yes I have made ebooks A5 paper size of like 5-6 pages for my company client regarding jewelleries and trend booklets . So far I have done in Corel draw n comfortable in it. It's a software I'm well versed. Some of my frnds have done the same in Photoshop or InDesign software's as well. If you are not comfortable with software's, then do Ms word. In MS word, you want you can add header n footer n once content space for 1 page is over, cursor automatically moves to next page. Plus once you have done settings like margin space, header, footer, page no for 1st page, same is set for rest of document. All you have to do place your content n pics.I have never used Google docs , so I have no idea. Hope that's ok
Bye

Yes, that's a great help!
Bye for now, Francis.

And if you use Google docs, let me know how to do as well. The more we all knw n share , the better for all of us.
Bye

As I've maybe mentioned, there are no natural page breaks in Google docs. I want short chapters, not long winded bluff. I'm not planning on using any pictures, just yet.

Sorry no but would like to know how....one day maybe. I will watch your progress with intertest.

I'm sure that your story is compelling too. Watch and learn big guy!! Ha ha.
Nearly start of the SuperRugby season- who do you follow?

Every team, its all about the journey of each of them....open mind....live for today....and enjoy each one. :- )

Carpe Diem then?
How is your journey progressing then? Much success?

Yes. Years ago I used Adobe PageMaker to write ebooks. Recently, I have used Microsoft Word and then converted it to a pdf file.

Cheers Glen. I'm currently starting to write on Google Docs. So all advise is very welcome.

Hi,

do you want to sell it or offer it for free to build a mailing list?

I have written and published an ebook and earned quite a bit money with it.
But now, sales have gone down a lot, so I will see if I can use it to build my list.

I wrote it in word and once done had someone on fiverr convert it to the correct format, so I could publish it on "Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP)".
You might be fine without getting someone from fiverr, if you don't use too many images, or know how to convert it yourself.

KDP is a platform from Amazon and makes it easy to publish books.
They pay you quite good, too. Especially for ebooks. You publish your book there for free, choose the price and when and where it gets published.
Amazon will "advertise" it a bit in the beginning, by showing it to more people, but after a while, you have to see where you get your sales from. You need loads of good reviews to stay high up on the list.

I promoted my book on my website since it is related to my niche.
Worked great for a while, but now the sales are completely down. ^^

Cheers
Moritz

I've just been posed a niche topic regarding my gambling past and addiction. Is it website worthy?

I believe it would be a good niche to work on. I have a web site alcohol and drugs etc and its work out well - so go for it - its what you know and are passionate about.

Thank you for your message. I will begin to develop that niche for sure.

Addiction of any type is a curse, and those that have gone through it only truly know about the demons that lurk within.

That is for sure - and there is no shortage of people that need and want help. Addictions are ruining lives, and families all over the world.

Totally agree with you on that. And this post-Christmas period is difficult too. I hate dark evenings.

If this is something you are passionate about, and likely it's a two way passion, then it's beyond worthy.

I'd say a question to ask is: Are you doing this to make money, or purge some inner demons...or both. The answer is important because it helps you understand your goals and prioritize better.

If money is the secondary reason, then anything is worthy. If money is the primary reason, then that willpower you used to squash the gambling bug, is the same willpower you'll be leveraging to see this through.

Money is certainly secondary. Helping others and sharing my story would be primary.
Most of my demons have been purged in therapy, both professionally and in group.
But if I can make some money on the back of it, then all well and good.

Hi, Francis, I have a website towards addiction, it's geared more towards alcohol and drugs. I have not added any affiliate links to it yet because this is my passion site. I am a recovering addict and whatever I advertise has to be something I do or use. For example, I do yoga and meditate, so right now I am looking at what I want to advertise. So, if you were a gambler then you know how to relate. So, you have to think what you can put on there to monetize it, think outside the box. You can see my site the link is on my profile page. Good luck and I think it's a great idea if you want to help people because that is my focus before making money. Do not over analyze, if you believe in it then do it :)

Thanks Carole. I will look at your website and think outside the box.
Addiction is a blessed curse, Thanks for the message and for sharing, that is always the hardest part.
Francis.

No, problem and if you want to ask me anything, you can always PM me.

That's very kind of you. You never know when you will get a PM

:) That's fine, we are here to help one another succeed!

There is a member here whose site relates to her previous addiction issues with alcohol etc.

Have a look at her profile as her site is also listed there https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/lynnehuy

Thanks! I will look at her profile now then.
Best wishes, Francis.

Good question. There are all types of addictions out there gambling is a big one. So if you talk about gambling on your site does that make it a gambling site I'm curious to where this goes hope you don't mind me adding that comment

It would be my story as regards to gambling, NOT promoting gambling. I hope this makes sense. Your comments are very welcome Scott.

I would agree. I think it is a worthy website as I have struggled with gambling myself. But I don't know if it would be allowed here

Ah, Mr Rooney. I'm sorry to hear that you too have struggled.
As I've said it would NOT be promoting gambling, but my personal story and journey with the curse.

I don't think that would violate the rules. And I think it is a worthy cause. Maybe we can exchange horror stories sometime

Happy for you to PM me anytime regarding our joint past.

Yes, a few horror stories in my past for sure.

Francis.

Please check with Kyle & Carson to determine if this topic is appropriate. I know that gambling sites are not allowed, but I don't know if this would fall under that umbrella.

Thanks, apologies, I thought I had replied.
I have asked Kyle if the idea would be a niche website idea.
