Is more always better?

Hi WA !

I don't blog alot but I wish I had more time to do it because I really like it here!

It's my day off (finally!) and I just finished scrambling to post a 4,100 word article on "treating depression alone" before my wife wakes up and forces me to have fun :-). I've never really been accused of not having enough to say.

Google says that longer posts have the potential to rank higher, but is longer always really better? I tell my medical students and residents to learn everything but always present just the most pertient facts as concisely and well-organized as possible. Maybe I should start to follow my own advice.

I can't help noticing that desktop computers are rapidly disappearing outside the world of academics and publishing. The average person today doesn't even own a desktop, maybe a laptop, but most likely a tablet. Young people seem busier than ever and want to do eveything "on-the-go" with their smartphone.

It's only a matter of time before smartpones will be replaced by wearable technology. Shouldn't information on the internet be moving in the direction of posts that are formatted in more concise and well-organized chucks, to make them more "small screen friendly"? Imagine trying to read a 4,100 word post using a Google Glass-type heads-up display.

Maybe we will need a whole new "Wearable Technology Internet" that actually has limitations on word lenghth and uses a specially designed outline-form instead of paragrahphs, to put only the most pertinent information in the most quickly accessable and readable format. In the wearable tech world, I could break my post up into at least 100 different 40 word entries :-)

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Frank

Yes, information it self is only as good as the quality it presents. Thanks for the perspective, always appreciate ideas that stimulate the mind.

More quality is better, not just more of the mundane!

Jeff

I am sure you are aware of Elon Musks's vision of nuerolink technology. Imagine a world where through brain implants, we are constantly and virtually plugged in. I have a desktop, it's where I do darned near all my work. My laptop is on a return to my left. It's more of a paper weight and dust collector than anything else. I play solitaire on my ipad and make calls on my iphone. There, thats my technology in a nutshell.

Have a good weekend Frank

I have way too many computers, between my office and home, but really couldn’t do without my MacBook Air!
I’m ALL in with NeuroLink Tech!!! 😃👍

I've never been a fan of long posts. After all, are you writing for Google or for your readers? Google won't ever buy anything from you, but if your post is long, odds are that some customers won't either. They don't want to spend all that time reading to find the single nugget that wanted.

To me, when it comes to blog posts, more words is just.... more.

Well said, Jeannine! :-)

Frank, this is the exact kind of questioning that will keep your content relevant!

Long written content is fine (even in 2020 and beyond) but as you said, it's our job to adapt to the changing habits of humanity and "block" our content into quick and easily digestible chunks of info.

Information has to be able to be expressed easily, concisely and without delay. With strategy, this can absolutely be done with a 4000 word blog post.

Thanks, Koda, but sometimes I wonder.
