Are We All Having Fun Yet?

Hello WA!

I don't blog often because my main interest is in music and everything else I know is pretty much all technical "gobbledygook". I have come to know many of you over the past 4 to 5 months and your commitment to success is impressive indeed! "Hard-core motivated" (big compliment) probably says it best. But are you also making time for a little fun in your life, especially during these trying COVID times??

I cannot begin the rest of my day without playing at least 2 hours of music every morning (outrageously early but it's worth it). The rest of my day is a whirlwind of trying to accomplish 12 things at once and do them well. Even more important than my morning fun is my evening time with my wife. We love watching movies, eating gourmet food, and going for walks. We miss the large get-togethers but that won't last forever. Yes, I always (mostly) manage to squeeze in two hours from 9 to 11 PM for the usual WA activities.

It's important for your mental and physical well-being, as well as your relationships with family and friends to ALWAYS remember to schedule some "down-time" into each and every day! What are some of the things you do to keep fun happening in your life? Please comment below. Don't make me worry about you! :-)

Hi Frank,

This is a very important point you make!!

People are increasingly having to chase a buck in order to survive a report out yesterday identified that 85% of Americans are now seeing that food inflation is starting to make an impact into their budgets.

If you are working a good job with plenty of money coming in that may not be a consideration however if you are not than hustle mode is a must and in that mode people don't normally have time for what you know is an essential activity that of down time and forget about it.

I know that taking a walk doesn't cost much or activities with family however it is important to set aside some time no matter the pressures to get some exercise and fresh air literally come up for air as an early grave for sitting behind a computer (all day and night in many cases) and for all the strenous effort made is certainly no recompense!!

Have a good day!! ;

R.

Thanks for your great reply, Rami! Unfortunately, what you say is true.

My grandparents were like that. They came here from Italy with practically no money to make a “better life” for their children and worked their butt off to make it happen. My maternal gps had 9 kids and my paternal gps had 7.

It was a hard grind but the world was a lot simpler then so, in a way, it wasn’t as much pressure as it would be today.

These days, if there isn’t time for rest and reflection it can be easy to lose perspective.

Frank

You are most welcome Frank!! ; You are so right it was a different world then. That loss of perspective is best shown by the rate of suicides where the situation appears so bad people are taking teir lives unecesarlily that perspective is so importantly critical to be present.

Thanks again for presenting this very pertinent article!;

The sucide rate is so high among children these days for things like "cyberbullying". I can't even imagine what's it going to be like for someone just entering this world. It's so sad but I always try to look on the positive side of things.

Appears that a spike has started occuring in the adults range now too. It is most compelling that the highest rate of suicide is in middle aged white men one would have thought that would be the least!!

I too look for the positive too Frank however there is a reality to consider as in what are the causes? I bet the perspective factor you kindly offer is high if not the highest !! ;

Right you are, Rami.
Hopefully things will start to swing the other way soon.
Thanks

You are most welcome Frank!! ;

Do we need more time? Or do we need to be more disciplined with the time we have? - Kerry Johnson

Hi Kerry,

Whatever works for you is fine. Just be sure to leave time for yourself and the things you like to do.

Frank

Thanks, Frank :)

By the way, Kerry is the author of the quote. My name is Natasha :)

Sorry, Natasha.
Nice to meet you! 🙂

Nice to meet you too :)

I should practice my guitar for 2 hours a day. I like playing a lot more than practicing

Hi Neil,

These days I mosly learn new tunes or rearrange old ones, but VERY quietly at around 5 AM. :-)

Yes, it's important not to neglect family and step away from the compute periodically. Fortunately my scrapbooking website requires me to play which relaxes me so that's my downtime. I also read every night before I go to bed. I don't like to go directly from blue light computer to sleep.

Hi Debbi,

That's a great idea for a site! My wife loves to read. I am a visual person so I like books or magazines with lots of pictures. I always have a big stack of guitar magazines to reach for on the night table.

I agree Frank!
Our mental well being is a huge part of a healthy and prosperous life style.... Let go, walk away clear your mind. We spend our weekends at the lake to unwind... We love the water and the peacefulness that goes with sitting out back with a morning cup of coffee, perhaps a good cigar with an adult beverage in the evening.
Monday morning (most often Sunday night) time to get back in the game, batteries re-charged with a clear focus.

Best wishes,

Life is good!
Fred Chapkman

Hi Fred,

I really like your wind-down routine, especially the "adult beverage" ! :-)

Stay Well & keep having fun,
Frank
