Celebrations and Reflections

Today is a special day in our life because my son was born 17 years ago today - we love birthdays and celebrating, and on his birthday I can't help always think of the day he was born and the feelings I felt on that day - excitement, nervousness, anticipation.

Being a teenager, he is at the age where all we get out of him are a lot of grunts and back-chat ... you know the challenging boundaries age ... but I couldn't be prouder on how this young man is turning out. He is empathetic, compassionate, kind, generous, strong (physically and mentally), humble, principled - shoo ... so many ...

We just need to work a bit on his independence, as he is totally comfortable to have everything done for him, and I for one know that I am not being a blessing to him if he is unable to do things for himself.

Amazing how we never stop being a work in progress in all areas of our lives.

I'm a big believer in teaching them how to fish. So we aren't feeding them the rest of our lives. he will be fine.

So am I ... which is why I am fully aware of needing to get on his independence quickly

Good job! He will be fine.

You did a great job! Our children are out of the nest, so to speak, and doing quite well on their own. Even so there were some starting problems. But again, what are parents for?

I know ... thanks Eric

Ain't life grand! Thanks for posting.

Sure is

You are doing a great job! I have turned things around on my son and I am now living with him and his family!

Beautiful

My youngest son still lives with me and he is 32!

So you are saying that I still have time :-)

HA HA

Life is a Work In Progress... But sounds like you are Doing a GREAT Job! Happy B-Day to your son!

Thanks so much

Aah how sweet - thanks Attila

You have a millennial Laurie! I have a grand son who lives with me 16 in August. Tell me about it!

Hehe, I know right

And, of course, cracking the whip now and then, just to see if he is paying attention. But do it in a nice way.

Yep, but he towers over us ... so when I do go "crazy mom" on him, it doesn't seem a threat these days :-)

you have the best attitude about teaching you son to make it the world when you're no longer there for him---so many parents refuse to let their children grow

Thanks D ... although I know I do need to work on his independence
