Hi all, if you are an affiliate of EAN, would appreciate if you could provide some advice on how you link the hotels in Expedia to your website? Thanks very much!

Travel-> Location-> Hotel
Subject-> Hotel = How does this Hotel relate to the subject?

Thanks very much for your reply! I just PM-ed you, as I wanted to find out more details in relation to this subject. Best regards

Hi, I was just going through my long neglected website,

I have had someone doing posts on my site that is only pages. So, it is easy to notice. I trash and they come right back. Guess, new password is needed for the time being.

Hey Sue,

Hackers use what is known as brute force attack. Essentially, they set up a computer program that goes through your site and essentially guesses your user name and password. If you have a password that is less than 11 characters and it doesn't contain a combination of upper case, lower case letters, some numbers and special characters, then it is really quite easy for them to guess the password.

The first step is to change your password. Make it a really secure password (as explained above) and use a program like lastpass.com or roboform.com to manage your passwords.

You can also add a plug in that limits the logins if they attempt too many tries (that is essentially what happens on a brute force attack). Just do a search when installing a new plug in for "limit login" and you can choose from that. Also, you can search for captcha plug ins as well.

You are lucky and all they did was post a rather harmless page. Other hackers do much worse like forward you sight to some unsavory places or they completely delete your database and put up a "This site has been hacked...". etc. It's a big reason why it's really important to back up your website.

Best Regards,
Jim

Hi Sue - I agree with Jim - set up a really cryptic password, and use that.

Although saying that, the random passwords that WA sets up for you when you create a new website, are very cryptic to begin with. Did you perhaps create a new user account, and choose a (forgive the term) simplistic password?

As a suggestion, maybe when you create a new user (so you can post as you, and not Admin), copy and paste the admin password the WA generates for you. Then you have your own username, and still have a very cryptic, difficult to hack, password.

I hope this helps?

All the best, Mark

Thanks very much for the detailed explanation! Wow, these hackers are really horrible!! Yes, it is fortunate they didn't do anything worse to my site:). Thanks also for the advise on how to tackle this......much appreciated!

Hi Mark, thanks also for your suggestions. I had not created a new user account actually. I was using WA's password, which is already very cryptic. Guess I have to change my password now. Thanks again!

Did you own it the domain? Start a new one.

Thanks. Yes, I own the domain, but should probably let it go.....

Hi everyone....

Could I find out if it is possible to redirect a new domain to an existing domain?

Example:

Existing domain:

Hello Kyle. I have two existing domains that are registered with NameCheap. They are inactive at the moment. I would like to utilize them as they are what my business name are about. They have recently been re-directed to web.com but I can not use them there or I have to pay for additional web hosting. How do I go about now to redirect them to WA. Please can you help?

a better question would be how to redirect domains to masked affiliate links

I see you have found out how already -=-you have been Rich a nized --LOl he is the best --It is a good thing too !!!

Yup. Just log in to your registrar's control panel where you purchased the domain from and set up a 301 redirect from there. :) Rich.

very helpful. thanks! keep up the good work

Hi does anyone here have a similar experience with New Affiliate Cash System? I received a receipt from them saying "Thank You For Your Order" when I never even placed an order!

I am getting these constantly. Usually commission statements

Just make sure you're credit card is not charged...

There are plenty of these "opportunities" that are wolves in sheep's clothing...otherwise known as a scam. I get them, too, and send them to my spam email or block them completely. Trust yourself, you already know that you didn't place the order which is why you're questioning why you got a receipt.

Hi Rick, thanks for your prompt reply! I was concerned they may hack into my credit card account, and generate an unauthorised transaction. Thankfully, my credit card company told me there is no such transaction:). Is it just a gimmick to get unsuspecting people onto their sales page? Has any such unethical companies ever hacked into your credit card account? Thanks!

It's a gimmick and like Tommy says below they will use variations. Good idea checking with your cc company. You can mark these as spam. My cc has always been fine. Just don't use it with these characters.

They also use "you have a new commission"

Followed by the amount and "Please check your Paypal to get it." *shakes head* The first time I was a doofus and checked my Paypal-then I knew better, and took my name off the list. I knew which program was sending them (amazing how many people use it!) and that shut them down. Amazing how the opportunity always shows up in MY town RIGHT NOW and FREE of investment. Yeah, right!

Oh yeah. I get "new commissions" I never earned. Funny though, never seen any money in my bank account.....

Thanks for your reply, Tommy. Can't believe the tactics these scammers use!

Yup, got that one a million times

A scam to draw you in is all

Hi Darlene, indeed a scam is what it is, but I was afraid these scammers even have the ability to hack into cc accounts!

Hi everyone, hoping to tap on your ideas on how best to get this done. If I am an affiliate of x website, and I want to integrate all the pictures from x website to my own websi

First, check with the affiliate managers and tell them what you want to do. Quite often, they will go the extra route for affiliates, especially ones that produce. If it's just banners you want, they will probably already have that.

Second, you could always simply reference the pics direct from their website. When you find a pic that you want to include, you right-click on the image and select Copy Image Location. When you click the Add Media button in a post or page, instead of selecting the file from your hard drive, just put that URL (that you copied) as the file name and it will pull the image source from that page.

A note on this second option, it's usually okay to do this with affiliate programs. But doing this on other websites that you are not associated with is considered bandwidth stealing and is not very ethical. Just so you are aware. It's not a bad idea to clear it with your affiliate manager before implementing if you go this route.

Third, you could copy them down to your hard drive and then use the Add Media in your posts (this is not the best approach).

Best Regards,
Jim

Hi Jim, thanks so much for your detailed reply, and my apologies for my tardy reply:(.

The affiliate managers do have a detailed API integration manual, but am afraid it is a bit too much for the "not very tech friendly" me:(. Your suggestion on Copy Image Location sounds like a better idea, but I will still clear it with the affiliate managers first. Thanks again!

Can't help you sorry. Good luck.
