Tip 148 make a staging site
Make a staging site
Never heard of it?
Me neither, until a few weeks ago.
Doing all changes on my master site with the delays and errors and frustration that go with it.
When I discovered this possibility, saving time and disaster...
Just sharing in the hope to help some...
What is a staging site?
A staging site is an exact copy of your site, on which you can work and do the necessary tests and corrections before moving it to your master site and putting it online again.
When is it needed?
It is needed when you are testing plugins and themes in the first place. This can be a time-consuming and disastrous activity if something goes wrong. Working on the staging site is like a big draft of how you want your site to look after corrections or change.
It can also be very helpful when you have an error on your site that needs correction or when you want to test something new.
It is not advised however when you are setting up a new site, or when you have a site with very few content.
How do you do that?
Very simple. Ask SiteSupport to make you one. Once done, you will be able to access it through your SiteManager dashboard. And once finished, you can ask them for further instructions.
I hope this is helpful for those among you who need to make changes to their website and who want to test that first without altering their master site.
Thank you for like, share and comment!
To your success!

Yes a staging site is a great idea.
Do you know if a staging site is counted as one of our # of websites allowed?
Thanks,
It is, yes
So from a technical viewpoint. Our active site is COPIED to a staging site and when we are done we ask SiteSupport to COPY the staging site back to our active site.
RIght?
Spot on, yes :-) Make sure you don't make changes to the active live website while you have your staging site, as the changes will be overwritten when you move the files back from the staging site.
You have all your awesome answers!
