Tip 125 : create a child theme
Create a child theme
Best is to create a child theme for your theme as you begin. If you have not done it yet, time to consider that.
Once your settings get more complicated it is even more important to have a child theme. Because they protect you from updates that may interfere with your own settings.
For the full details go to.wordpress codex
The best way to create a child theme is to install a plugin.

What about the updates? If I create a child theme, will there still be updates? If yes, then I don't see the point in creating another theme, and if no, you are falling behind.
I never figured out why would I need it. How could I lose my settings with updates? Unless I overwrite css in the theme editor, but in that case, I know what I did so I can make it again.
Can you explain me, please? Thanks
Thanks Fleeky, and as always right on time to answer a question that I had yesterday.
On my Affiliate the theme I have is from Elemento and I was in the back office yesterday and noticed an update on the theme, asking if I wanted to update to a child theme.
So it seems from what you said I should.

Morning,
If your theme is simple, do not Worry.
If you have a professional frameOrkw theme, better use child themes
In your case, i doubt it is necessary.
Just know, as themes complicate, it is better to have one
I read often about people creating a child theme but I’ve never done it. I’m not complete sure why I would need one?
If your theme is professional, it will be framed. Meaning you can adapt your own stylesheets. And having a child theme will protect you from theme updates where you might looze ll your settings.
If your theme is simple, without many compliction, there is no need for it. Unless you work withstylesheets.
You first need a good parent theme, ofering you a frameOrk to work with php and other functions... it is mostly used by webbuilders and designers to preserve their own creations...
Hope this helped a little

If your theme is simple, no need... just make sure it is a light version of a profesional theme...

Very helpful as you always are. I wish I had of gone that direction when I started. I am sure it would have been a huge benefit.
Keep doing what you're doing.
