Some popular sites I've seen have <meta> as "generator" or other code words. What is this? They appear to have no other keywords in the code.
Those are meta tags. These are part of the "code" that Google and other search engines look at when determining how to rank your website.
They DO NOT lead to higher rankings and if you have set-up your All in One SEO tool (as per the tutorial here at WA), then you don't have to worry about <meta> tags going forward as they are taken care of for you.

Sure cannot trump an answer from Kyle! But then I always want to ask - did that answer your question?
Yes I understand that my websites may not need anything, but I'm just curious as to why some websites that are popular apparently have the keywords hidden or coded somehow? Maybe I'm just reading the code wrong.

Any solutions appreciated.
I uploaded a new sitemap. Going to give it 24 hrs and see what happens. Thanks for all the assistance it is greatly appreciated and always remembered!
I think I should remove this from the file.
User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-admin/
Disallow: /wp-includes/
Sitemap: sitemap.xml
Did you block search engines at one point? I've seen instances of this on sites that are working fine, but if your site is not getting indexed, it looks like you need to upload a new robots.txt file.
But if your site is indexed and you are having posts/pages not getting indexed on a case by case basis, you can try this https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/get-posts-pages-indexed-faster-in-google-with-webmaster-tools
How can you tell Google hasn't crawled your site? If Analytics is working, then your site is probably indexed and working fine. Is it webmaster tools that is showing an error for your sitemap?
Correct. Webmaster tools shows the last crawl was 3 days ago. About the same time I uploaded the sitemap. I was being crawled everyday before that. One of pages that I think should be higher in results is not coming up at all.
Ah, then your site IS being crawled and I think there are no issues. Publish content more frequently and Google will crawl it more often.
See to it that, you didn't check DISABLED the function of your KEYWORD settings under GENERAL SETTINGS of your ALL IN ONE SEO or and some other functions under that settings. Or try to provide some WEBMASTER verification from google, bing and others because that will really help alot. Hope that helps.
This is weird. Usually a sitemap helps Google better crawl your website. Have you checked your robots.txt file to see if there is a line that blocks Google crawlers?
Confusing. Tools indicates 0 blocked URLs but under "robots.txt.analysis" shows "invalid sitemap URL detected; syntax not understood" Then this:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-admin/
Disallow: /wp-includes/
Sitemap: sitemap.xml
I think this is the problem right?

Maybe I'm late on this but is Google Alerts not functioning? What is a good alternative?

Going through the training I notice that Google is used as THE tool around which all activity is centered. Should other search engines not be used as well? Are there reasons ot
Google owns a huge part of the market, but yes, you can also focus on Bing or Yahoo if you like. Some people have found success by getting their site ranked better in those pages rather than focusing on Google. It's up to you. But most people use Google, so it's easier to get traffic from there in the beginning IMO
Google is the most highly used search engine in the world, however, other search engines such as Bing, Yahoo Search, can be used as well.
