Who Says It Never Snows in California?

Yep, came down here from Alaska to get away from a little bit of winter. However, I should have gone to Hawaii...yesterday this area received 5 1/2 inches of snow. That's okay -- keeps me snuggled into a cozy spot in the living room close to the heater, my computer on my lap. The picture at top is Patte's back yard.

I am glad I wrote posts ahead and set up a schedule to post every three days. I'm doing a bit of writing, but most of my posts are already done. And here I am atop a snow-covered mountain in my friend's cabin, yet still able to connect to the world. That never ceases to amaze me!

Here's one view of the two miles of dirt road up the mountain to Patte's cabin.

Here is another view. There are occasional views of the valley below or the hillside drop on the other side. It's picturesque and a bit steep, and I am actually glad I don't have to make such a trek to get to my house. Who says Alaska has the monopoly on hard-to-access places? It is pretty nice today, but the weather folks are predicting a week of rain.

Patte has two vehicles: One is a very nice large, newer car. Normally, she keeps it at the bottom of her "big hill" and uses an older four-wheel-drive truck to traverse the homeward road.

Patte has a very busy schedule, but we limit trips up and down the road if possible. Today she had to go to a funeral, so it gave me a chance to get some posts prepared and ready for publishing.

Snow doesn't last long around here. You can see a little on the tree in foreground and some in background.

I am just as glad, as I didn't really leave Alaska to see snow.

There's your travelogue for today. I'm enjoying my stay! Hope all of you are progressing nicely on your website journey and enjoying the experience.

P.S. Got my hair cut while I was here, and then had my friend take a new picture so I could put it on my profile.. What you sees is what you gets.

Glad you are enjoying yourself in spite of the weather. Beautiful scenery. Look forward to hearing and seeing more. Thanks Fran.

You are welcome. More will be coming.

What a drop dead, awe inspiring view, scenes that make great books and coffee table picture shows. I hope the scant amount of snow hasn't dampened your goal of rest and relaxation. Sounds and looks heavenly. Love your blogs! So descriptive and inspirational. Thank you!!

Glad you liked the pictures and the blog. More will be coming. Meanwhile, keep on building your dream. I'll be back very soon.

Interesting to me. Is so different to me in Singapore

I can imagine! What is the weather like there right now?

Over here the weather is more humid, rain every few days. There is no 4 season here. In Singapore, most forest have been removed, give way to building houses, is sad. But no choice, we have very limited land with v big population. Sometimes I will cross border to Malaysia to get some fresh air.

Hi Fran. Remind me what part of California you are in?

You know it snowed on Maui today so you should be glad you didn't actually go to Hawaii now! It was at a high elevation but it was a first for the area (not on top of the mountains).

It is nice to see a more clear picture of you!

I am in Northern California, above Garberville.

Glad you liked the picture.

Ok, that is up toward where all my husband's family is from. His Grandpa was Sherriff of Humbolt County.

what was his grandpa's last name? Patte is wondering if she had heard about him.

It was his Great Grandfather not Grandfather I guess. His name was Albert Nickols. He was sheriff from the 40's through 60's maybe.

Hey my friend
Glad you are enjoying your trip away and how bizarre- Snow in sunny California- hey Mother Nature is amazing

Vicki

Cabin pics coming...also pics from the Avenue of the Giants. I've been on that road before, but this time want to take some redwood pictures. I'll put on here, of course.

Yep, with the new picture, you see me at my best...lol...my hair looked redder before she cut it. The red showed mostly on the longer pieces that she cut off. Vanity, vanity! Ah, well, it is me, so might as well admit it.

Thanks for the message, my dear!l Talk soon.

Hi Fran, snow in California that does not seem right. I also heard something about snow in Hawaii.
Historic’ storm hurls huge waves and 191-mph winds at Hawaii. Rare snow hits Maui.
Wow talk about climate change.

No, it doesn't seem right. I think I brought it with me. It's lovely here, though, so I don't mind much.

Wow some beautiful scenery

Yes, it is very pretty here.

Where in California are you, Fran? Seems like the northern part.
Colette and Philip

Yep, northern part. I'm in Garberville...or, rather, above it...lol...

We love northern CA, Colette is from Sunnyvale in the bay area.

Yup! The part of California you visited does get snow! Thanks for sharing the beautiful pics! Enjoy yourself.
C & P

I'm enjoying.
