We Can Apply Ancient Wisdom Today

While sorting reams of paper, I found this quote from Seneca (4BC to 65AD). He was a Roman Stoic philosopher, and shared ancient wisdom that still resonates today.

Think about this quote: "Conditions of conquest are always easy. We have but to toil awhile, endure awhile, believe always, and never turn back."

I do believe one could replace "conditions of conquest" with "conditions of success in our business."

Yes, the conditions are easy, if we just persevere and keep working to build and improve. We need to internalize the mindset that we believe in ourselves and will never give up.

Reaching success is a journey. It may take us a while to get there, or even find the best road to travel. However, if we keep searching, we will find the way.

Yes, we must toil. Action is what moves us forward. Yes, we must endure some hardships or setbacks, but so long as we keep believing in ourselves and our goal, we can overcome these problems.

If we fail, we can consider that we are that much closer to success, because we now know one method that does not work. Our belief in the rightness of our path can overcome what obstacles are there to block us.

There will be those who tell us we are never going to reach our goal. Remember, they are not on the journey, so how can they know? Ignore these naysayers. Keep taking action steps forward.

The only way we are sure to fail is if we quit. Yes, the conditions of conquest are always easy. They involve our believing strongly in our ability to win, and pushing forward over each obstacle until the path ahead is clear.

We can make it! Others have gone before to show the way, if we heed and believe. We must make the commitment to continue forward, no matter what. Somewhere up ahead is the shining star of success.

We deserve to reach our goal. We can do it! Let's climb that mountain -- meet you at the top!
