Today Was Major Snow Removal Time At The Homestead

Today my snowplow guy came in with a big grader (is that the proper name?) to remove my snow. It took him an hour and a half, so he was plenty busy. I took this picture because of the large topknot on the snowpile through the fence. He almost created a snowman!

This next picture is looking down the driveway after he plowed. He made big stacks on both sides of the road to remove all the excess snow

The next picture shows the start of the snow removal near the shed.

Here's the big boy and his operator

The shed, with snow removed...

Then it was time to clean off the roof. Here are the brave lads being lifted to new heights to finish the job.
After they got all the snow removed, I brought in 3 wheelbarrow loads of wood and a bag of sawdust plus a bag of wood chips, both for kindling. (Put about 6 handfuls of sawdust in a small paper bag and use it like kindling. It works beautiully.) I figured I'd better get the wood in today, as it's supposed to snow again tonight.

My little car was shoveled off and moved. They had to tow it, as the battery wouldn't do its thing. A friend is coming tomorrow with a charger to start it so I can park it properly. However, it's staying out in front of the house, in case I need plowed again!

That was my day's adventure. Now am going to make some salmon patties for supper...yum! I hope the snow will be a bit more moderate for the rest of the winter.

Thanks for sharing your day, Fran.
The pictures are also a fun addition. Hope you have some fun stuff to do during the times you are snowed in.

I know you have online projects, but once in a while a girl has gotta do something different.

Do you can salmon or do you buy from the store? I love Salmon patties, but sometimes I enjoy fresh as well

We do have HEB grocery stores in our part of the world, only 45 minutes away that have good fresh fish. (I don't have to shovel snow to get to my vehicle)
Take care of yourself,
Sami

I have both canned and frozen salmon. One of the benefits of life in Alaska -- we get plenty of fresh seafood, and I love it!

Wow Fran! I love the images! It sure looks cold though! That guy's beard is GREAT!

You had a very eventful day, indeed!

Your dinner sounds fantastic! My late wife Joanna made some mean Salmon patties! I haven't had one of those in over 20 years! She passed away in 2001!

Thanks for that fond memory, and have apleasant and toasty evening!

Jeff

Too bad the other guy's face didn't show...he is also fully bearded. The two look somewhat alike, so I asked if they were brothers. Apparently they get that comment a lot.

In your cold house, you need a beard like that to keep your face warm!

Wow, that looks to be an extreme amount of snow. Not that I'm familiar living with snowy seasons. I've experienced snow only once on a trip to England for Christmas with family. That was many years ago!
I'm so pleased you are now back to some normality, Fran. I do hope the next snowfall is not as dramatic as this one has been for you.
Well done to those men for the great work they do.

Valerie

Yes, they did a good job. Of course, it was an expensive day for me, but worth it.

Yes, I can imagine. Having to pay for nature's drastic behavior is not good.

I heard that a friend who lives "out the road" (Do others besides Alaskans use that term?) lost half her barn when the snow collapsed it. Fortunately, her horses were in the other half, and yesterday a group of folks was trying to save the structure.

I'm so sorry to learn of your friend's loss of half her barn. Thank goodness the horses weren't hurt. But they probably got frightened by the collapse of the other half. I do hope your friend doesn't suffer too much from this misfortunate. It can cause anxiety just like the continual earthquakes I experienced for five years prior to moving away almost twelve months ago. I know Alaska experiences earthquakes too. But, I'm aware that is another story!!
And, I like "out of the road". It's different! We would probably say "in another street". It all means the same, or similar :)
I hope you are enjoying your weekend, Fran in spite of the snow.

The two fellows who helped at my place went out there next and were able to get the snow off the side of the barn still standing. The owner is being very positive -- she feels she can rebuild this summer.

That's wonderful news, Fran. I am so pleased the owner is dealing with this positively. I hope all goes well for her from now on.

Me, too...she is a nice person.

That's lovely, Fran.

WOW!!!! You've been busy!!! Stay safe and warm up there in the frozen north!

I shall -- and plan to sleep really well tonight.

LOL. I bet!

Well, it's now Friday and, yes, I did sleep really well.
