The Importance Of Perseverance In Writing

I am writing a post on the importance of perseverance on one of my websites. When I looked up quotes on perseverance, I found this one: "If you want to write, just believe you can, because it is all about perseverance." That quote applies so well to many of our members.

That's why they tell you that the best way to learn to write is to write. Practice makes perfect, or at least readable. Don't stop because you don't think you can do it -- push those boundaries and persevere.

Try this: Imagine explaining something you understand very well to a friend. Think of what you would say, then write it down, just like you were having a conversation. If you practice it this way, you can make your writing read like a conversation with a friend. That is ideal.

For your posts, you might find it helpful to first map out what you want to say before you write it. Go over the ideas in your mind, and then make an outline of your story.

Put in the title, main headings, and any subheadings. Then fill your content in around these. Writing in this way will help make your thoughts more organized and coherent.

Once you have the post written, read it out loud. Doing so allows you to monitor if your writing flows smoothly from one topic to another. It will also help you identify superfluous words or too many verbal repetitions. If, after reading, you have found places that you feel need tweaked, do your adjustments.

Perhaps you can also read what you have written to another friend to get their reaction and suggestions. In our writer's group, we read our selection aloud first and people just listen. Then we read it again and they follow along on their own copy.

This training gives a great opportunity to establish clarity in your writing. Also, others can often see where some work is needed to make the writing more understandable. They might have questions that will give you ideas to expand your topic. While looking at a copy, they might also see grammatical or spelling errors.

Once you type your post onto site content, do two things: Use the grammar check, because it will find many of your errors. After that check, go back and read it yourself. Sometimes an error will be an actual word, and the grammar check passes over it, not finding the error.

As time passes, you will find the writing becomes easier. It will flow better and you will learn to express yourself more coherently. Believe it -- if you persevere, you can learn to write.

Hi Fran. Perseverance is definitely a trait we all need in the blogging word. I check my Grammer constantly, but somehow mistakes still seem to make there way through. Jim

Yep, those little errors just slip through. I try hard, but sometimes I still miss one.

Thanks you for the encouragement.

You are certainly welcome.

Thanks for the advice Fran.

Thank you for reminding me!

With such posts I remind myself as well. Thanks for your comment.

Thank you for a great post. Writing well is hard. Therefore, perseverance is essential.

I like your recommendation to map out our posts by using an outline. Planning the writing project shortens the writing time.

It does help, especially with longer posts.

Hi. Some fantastic tips in there. I do sometimes find the writing of content difficult so perseverance is really important. I always try to imagine that I’m explaining the topic to someone who doesn’t know anything about it. I also imagine that I’m writing to a good friend which helps me keep my writing in the right tone of vice for my site. Sometimes I have to leave an article and come back to it another day when I have a bit more inspiration.

Hope everything is going really well for you. All the best.

Good...you have added some nice pointers. Explaining the topic to someone who doesn't know about it is a really good way to make sure you have made your content clear.

Very good info thank you for sharing

You are very welcome.
