Have you heard of Louise Hay? According to Australian media, she is the "closest thing to a living saint." She is one of the founders of the self-help movement. Her best-selling book, "Heal Your Body," was published in 1976.

In this book are healing techniques and positive philosophy, and the lessons it contains have taught millions how to create more of what they want in their lives. This includes more wellness in their bodies, minds, and spirits.

Louise had good incentive to create her personal positive philosophy. She lived a tormented past. Her childhood was unstable and impoverished. Her teen years were marked by abuse.

She ran away from home and ended up in New York City. In the city, she became a model and then married a prosperous businessman.

In 1970, she attended meetings in New York City at the Church of Religious Science. There, she trained for the ministry. She became a popular speaker at the church, and soon began counseling.

When Louise was diagnosed with cancer, she decided against traditional cancer treatment. Instead, she developed an intensive program of affirmations, visualizations, nutritional cleansing, and psychotherapy. Within six months she was cancer-free and completely healed.

In 1985, she started "The Hayride," a support group for men with AIDS. She started with six men, and by 1988, the group had grown to well over 800 people.

During this period, she wrote "The AIDS Book: Creating A Positive Approach." She has now written several books. To learn what is available, visit her website, louisehay.com.

Louise Hay has developed sets of cards carrying positive affirmations. I wondered why her name sounded familiar, and then realized I have one set, called "Power Thought Cards." Occasionally, I pick one at random to read.

She has coined so many powerful affirmations that I decided to give you a small sample of some here that you might want to try. Here they are:

  • "I love myself just the way I am."
  • "Every experience I have is perfect for my growth."
  • "Wellness is the natural state of my body."
  • "All areas of my life are abundant and fulfilling."
  • "I forgive myself and set myself free."
  • "My day begins and ends with gratitude and joy."
  • "My income is constantly increasing."
  • "I now choose to release all hurt and resentment."
  • "Today I create a wonderful new day and a wonderful new future."

It's so satisfying to read about people who have traveled through extremely bad experiences, then picked themselves up and transformed their lives into something awesome. This lady has lessons to offer that could be of benefit to us all.

I find it very inspiring to read about individuals who have picked themselves up and transformed their lives. I have never heard of Louise Hay, but I am certainly going to look into reading her articles. I am assuming I can get a set of her cards in a book store.

Thank you for sharing this with us. It was a great article.

It is inspiring, indeed, to read about someone like her. I, too, was impressed. My cards were a gift, but it's the kind of thing a bookstore might carry. You can also order them online.

Perfect thanks!

Hi Fran. Great post. I also believe in the power of positive affirmations, although I sometimes get overwhelmed and forget that I need to use them! Here's an affirmation for that: I am positive that I am growing into the person I was born to be and forgive myself for forgetting to affirm the positive things in my life at times. Thanks for the reminder, Fran.

You are welcome. Glad to remind you.

them.

Hi Fran,

I had not heard of Louise Hay until just now, a wonderful back story and incredibly positive. It would seem (looking at some of the positive affirmations she lives by) she is also a recovering addict or alcoholic. Huge respect for the lady, changing not only her life but those around her and her followers.

I think I should read more about this lady’s journey, I feel this inspirational person who suffered living (even in the day to day) from a very young age, overcoming Cancer, helping others, flourishing and indeed helping others to flourish, is someone I feel would also inspire thenguys I work with in Prison.
They always love hearing about people overcoming obstacles and like it more when they can see some similarity....teen troubles and abuse is a huge similarity for all of them.

What a wonderful woman.

Thank you for showing me Louise Hay 👍

I don't think she is a recovering addict or alcoholic, though she could be. I believe she was one of the lucky ones who went through hell when she was young and sought a positive solution when she escaped her childhood.

I was guided to Louise Hay's work and books last year, so have loved her work and the work Hay house has to offer. I am currently listening to an audio book by Dr Wayne Dyer who work very closely with Louise. My children also used to go to sleep to one of her meditations! this post has motivated me to get her books out again and re-read them. Always good for the soul xx

Glad to hear she has been helpful to you. I do love the cards...now to get a book.

Louise Hay was (and continues to be) a truly inspirational woman. "How to Heal Your Life" helped me along the path towards self-development and well being - I read it for the first time many years ago am still dipping in and out of it.
Louise was good friends with a guy called Dr. Wayne Dyer. If you like Louise's work, you'll no doubt also appreciate Wayne's approach to life, understanding what's important and how to be truly happy. Check out some of his talks on YouTube.
Thanks for the post - for me, a great way to start the day with fellow Louise fans!
Have an awesome day ahead,
Jane

...sorry, book title "You Can Heal Your Life", guess the coffee hasn't quite kicked in yet :)

Glad you enjoyed the post. Yes, I am familiar with Wayne Dyer. I do believe I must get one of Louise's books.
