Is Your Mood Affected By Weather?

Have you noticed that the way you feel can be dependent on what you see outside your window? Is it raining? Sunny? Or (heaven forbid) snowing? Is your mood affected by the weather?

I'm an Alaskan, through and through, and I love this country. However, I must admit the amount of snow we've received this year has me frustrated and impatient for spring.

I read posts from many members who mention sun and flowers, and I can't help but be a bit envious. Today it is snowing again. I can tell you, though as our temperature nears 40 degrees, the snow does not stay for long. It melts off quite quickly.

Do you wonder how we learn to deal with wild Alaska? I believe it's part of what I call the Alaskan attitude. We learn to accept what is and deal with it as best we can. Today it may be snowing but tomorrow the sun may shine.

Alaskans who embrace the Alaskan attitude tend to hunker down and do what is necessary to get through unwanted weather behavior. Difficulties that we conquer tend to make us stronger.

When we talk to friends about some excursion we want to make, it's standard behavior to add the phrase, "weather permitting." We know that Ma Nature may have other plans for us.

My cat has the right attitude. He was looking out the cat door, which has a clear Plexiglas covering, so it's like a little window just at cat height. The door is locked, so I asked him if he wanted outside. I opened the door for him. He looked at the snow falling and came right back in. Smart cat!

As with many problems that can arise in Alaskan life, we become adept at searching for and finding original solutions. This trait, developed to a fine art by many here, allows us to move forward in spite of odds against us.

The art of working through difficult situations serves us well when we adventure into online business. We tend to be quite stubborn when we really want something, and do not give up easily.

We search for alternate routes around obstacles. We persevere until we find our path clear again before us. We seek out answers from those who have followed the same trail successfully. We rely on our strengths and find ways to bypass our weaknesses.

Even this endless snow can be of benefit. It often keeps us inside and seeking warmth; going out if we must, to perform necessary tasks.

Writing this blog is a good example. Why not use the snowfall as a good topic to write about? Turn it into a positive catalyst for action.

Original thinking can be a key advantage we have when we embrace the Alaskan attitude. Sometimes the solution to a problem can be quite simple, if we think it through carefully. It's important to get out of that box that many occupy and find a new way to do something.

You don't have to live in Alaska to develop an Alaskan attitude. When you can turn unfortunate circumstances into advantages, you are well on your way.

Assess, act, and persevere. Turn adversity into benefit. Conquer all problems as they arise and journey forward toward success.

Go for it -- I wish you well.

I really like how you expressed the Alaskan attitude and made the connection to online marketing, Fran.

The weather does impact, on us. I have just returned from the high Country, there is a wind called the Nor Wester, it blows, and blows and blows calms right down to nothing still as then next minute it's howling again, very jarring on the nerves, as you could imagine., makes it hard to concentrate, writing can become a challenge.

Our weather forecast is for more snow. However, it's supposed to warm up next week some time. I sure hope it does. This snow might be beautiful, but I'm tired of it.

I know the feeling Fran every day its a day closer.

Hi Fran Darling.
his is northern Arizona, Mohave County, below the county seat of Kingman so I'll give you the good and the bad, OK?

Weather is lovely today, 79 degrees F. I live in a 38 year old travel trailer, and slept with all 3 top vents open, a blanket for my legs and hips, and a sheet for the rest of me, often including covering my head with the sheet.
Last two months the wind was so icy and really hard to go outside! needed to do work outside, but forget that! So all that work slid to this month, but it's got to be done so I can hide in the Air Conditioning, after I get help to re-install it, correctly I might add, so the a. C. doesn't fall out. Which it did fall out, did a 180 flip and did not land on the condenser. It did land on the sand, for a little cushion. One never want to hurt a $300 brand new gift air conditioner.
They are supposed to tip to the outside a bit, so water doesn't flood into your house or travel trailer in a deluge of a rain! But didn't happen that way, as the poor guy who put it in the hole had heart surgery 6 weeks prior. So he just lifted it up and plunked it in the hole.
Anyways, this time around
it will be done right.
And last summer, older folks were saying that was the hottest summer in 30+++ years.
I was REALLY thankful that there was NO rain, because 115-120 degrees ALL summer long and WELL into fall, we would have been so miserable!

I say it's a great thing that we have WA. WA is like a vacation from craziness! Weather included as craziness, eh Fran?

Thank you so much for this post and sharing your determination to succeed. I need to hear that stuff!
I need to tame my outer world,
then it 's tame my inner world, and quoting Fran,"Assess, act, and persevere. Turn adversity into benefit. Conquer all problems as they arise and journey forward toward success.
Go for it!"

Thank you for making me a better person, Fran Darling!

Well, there's the other side of the coin. It might be snowing here, but I will never feel so hot from the weather temperature that I need to hang out in front of the air conditioner. We think "hot" is 80 degrees. That temperature is rare here, though it can happen. I used to say that summer in Alaska is the first two weeks of July, because if we are going to get real warm weather, that's about when it will hit.

Yes, there are disadvantages of living in Alaska, but the advantages in my eyes are many. I'll stay, in spite of the weather.

Yes, I thought that I remembered you saying summer is about 2 weeks long.
There is different beauty in different parts of the world, and different beauty inside of different people! Fran you are very fresh, diligent, and have great inner beauty and kindness we all enjoy about you!
Suzay.

Hello Fran,
Great post and a great attitude as well!
We can't let things that are not in our control defeat us. I always try to roll with the flow.
Today it was nice weather here, so I weeded my garden. Tomorrow it is supposed to thunderstorms all day, so I will work on my websites and get some things done around the house.

Thank you for sharing this. It is definitely an interesting challenge.

Hope the snow moves out quickly!

Barbara

Yes, it's a challenge, but I'm surviving...thanks for commenting.

Always my pleasure, Fran!😊😊

Hi Fran, my gosh I have known you for a while was not aware you lived in Alaska.

We did a cruise many moons ago and it was quite a spectacular country.

I love my warm weather. Yes, the weather does affect my mood. I
think I have that seasonal disorder thing.

We are going to be hitting the 80F mark here in Ontario. Eventually to do get to adapt to the situation.

All the best,

Michael

Ah, yes, I've lived here for 52 years.

Send us a little of your warm weather, okay? I really am tired of looking at snow, no matter how beautiful it is.

I will send you some warm weather soon Fran.
