Going Backwards In Time Is Not A Good Adventure

Today I took a big step backwards in time and I didn’t like it. We are experiencing a bad storm here – fortunately, this time it is heavy rain instead of heavy snow.

However, the storm has made its mark. I have been without phone service or internet for the entire day. I’ve had just a small taste of what Mel Waller went through in the Philippeans after Odette struck and did her damage. We are lucky, though, as the rain is at least removing some of our snow.

That’s not necessarily a good thing. We have a strong possibility of two negative consequences. One is ice and the other is flooding. It’s the time of year for us – winter – when we become subjected to the worst weather tantrums.

So, how did my day go without those two vital services? The day did not go well. There were a few things I could do, as always seems to be the case with WA. I wrote a new post. I selected six more items for my jewelry boutique.

It’s a good thing my research had already been done for my post. In fact, I had researched one more topic, and will start writing that post tomorrow.

However, the day has gone very slowly. I can’t answer messages and I can’t look up anything online. When you can’t access something, you realize how much you miss it.

I’m thankful for my wood stove, as it as least keeps the house warm. That stove helps so much to make this cold little place comfortable. I sure wish I could package up some of the heat from my good little stove and send it to Jeff Brown.

How does he keep going with no heat? He certainly has my admiration. I don’t think I could handle it.

And me without a kitty to keep me company! When spring gets here, I will definitely go to the Juneau animal shelter and get another cat. A kitty saves you from loneliness and gives you another living being to interact with. If you are alone, I do recommend a kitty friend.

I can’t leave here because my little car with its smooth tires would be unsafe to drive on the icy roads. I can’t call someone to get a ride because I have no phone service. Let’s hope the problem is solved by tomorrow.

My days are usually very full. Today I’ve done things in fits and starts and have had trouble focusing on what I COULD do. It is interesting how much I’ve come to depend on WA for many things.

WA is not just a business platform, but it makes up a good part of my social life as well. Discussing problems and working out solutions with other members is rewarding and fulfilling.

As we become acquainted, conversations evolve into more in-depth connections with each other.

Today I’ve been cut off from my family, and it just makes me realize how much all of you mean to me. You, the WA community, are an important part of my life now, and I am very glad I found you. I couldn’t ask for a better place to build an online business.

I sure hope the internet returns tomorrow.

P.S. It just came back on, so was able to publish this blog. Yay!

Glad to hear you got your power back.

Losing it is a double-edged sword - on the one side it is bad and unpleasant not to have power - but on the other side, it makes us appreciate what we do have and many of us take it for granted every day.

Your words about WA and the community here resonate with me too - for several reasons.

WA can become an important part of daily routine and life - as well as business for us. For many, it is just that.

It is also important for us if we contemplate building groups, networks, and communities of our own - and learning what and how to build into those communities (memberships really) to add value people want and need.

So lots of lessons here.

Have a great day!

Best regards,

L.D. Sewell

Fran,
I agree that WA does a great job of keeping us socially interactive.

Grateful that the internet is available to those of us who are interested and a tool we have to build with. After a lifetime of working, I hardly know how to not work.

As more time goes by, I may be content with other activities, but right now, working on my sites is such a full-filling thing.

Oh, I agree. It's exciting to see our online presence grow. I hope you remain content and excited about your online activity.

Seems like you did really well in spite of the challenges! I like how you tied this post to Mel and Jeff.

As for me, in this time of my life, I like the idea of being at home for an extended period. I have loads of books that I can use to fill up my time!

Thanks for sharing this post, Fran 😊

Margaret

Filling the time is actually pretty easy -- it's the frustration of being pushed off my usual routine that bothers me. Fortunately, all is well again.

I know what you mean about not being able to do as you're accustomed to. That's a "pet peeve" of mine, too.

Margaret

Hope things are restored for you now, Fran and that the damage is not too severe. Outages are no fun. It's amazing how much we depend on internet and electricity and heat during the cold months. Hope you get yourself a kitty soon. They make great company! Stay warm :-)

Susan

Ah, yes, I will be glad to have a kitty again. Just a few months...

I feel your pain of not being able to be online. It happened to me last Friday. I'm so addicted to the computer. TV can go but the computer is a lifeline!!!! It's needed like food almost. Scary!

Sorry about the storms. We've had weird things here in VA too....even some flooding. I hope Mother Nature gets back on her meds soon!!!!!!

Stay safe

Back on her meds? I like it! Will have to remember that one.

It's really amazing how much we become addicted to our computers. In a way it's good, because our business is on here, but when it all goes away, it can get a bit scary.

At least a lot of the ice is now gone from my driveway.
