Christmas Dinner With Friends
Here we are, at my friends' home where I'll have Christmas dinner. Denise and Larry have such a beautiful little log home that I thought you'd enjoy some pictures. My friends came and got me, so the first pic you see is of their car.
My chariot awaits!The garage
The lovely, Christmasy front door
Now, that's an icicle! Just inside the door. That's Denise's brother and one of their two dogs.

The dining room table, where a fine meal was enjoyed by all. Thought you would like a look at an Alaskan log home at Christmas...hope you enjoyed the pictures.Wishing you all the best new year yet!

Thank you for allowing us to see the details of your life in such a different part of the world. Curious about house building practice. Logs are outside and partly inside. As I see the walls are not thick. No extra insulation, this is enough in this cold climate? What is the white material on the external walls?
The ceiling is high so perhaps it is not easy to heat the space. You have plenty of wood so I assume you use it for heating. Is this some central heating with radiators around? Thank you.
Logs make up the walls. They are both the outside and the inside. They are laid on top of each other and caulked in between. In the old days, moss was used for caulking, but now more modern substances are used. The thickness of the logs contains the heat in the house really well. They have the wood stove, but I believe they also have a Toyo...pretty standard here. I have two small Toyos and a wood stove in my house.
White material on the external walls? You mean the snow on the roof? Outside, you see the outer surface of the log that you see inside. If you mean the internal walls, they are probably painted sheetrock.
Thank you for the detailed description. As for the white material, I was referring to the one on inside, so you explained it. Thanks again.
Wow, that is a nice-looking log home.
Those beams are enormous in size.
Very nice pictures, Fran.
Thanks for sharing,
Merry Christmas!

I've always loved log homes, and I wish I could afford one. They have them in FL but they lack the cozy northern wilderness feeling.

Hi Fran, loved the pictures of the snow... but that's as far as I go for the white stuff. That's why I live in the Southern United States, South Carolina to be exact... LOL!!
I am happy you had a good time with friends. That's what the holiday is all about!

Well, this snow is a bit much. Our winter started really early this year, and I hope it does not continue this way all winter.
I did have a good time. Thanks for commenting, and hope your Christmas was great as well.
My Christmas is usually always great. I just like to watch my daughter open her gifts. That gives me the greatest joy on Christmas.
Have a blessed day, Fran!
