Alaska In Early Winter
This is the road to my house, taken today. A couple of you have asked for pictures, so took a few today.
My little tree, with lights off.And now, with lights. Not sure how I got that strange dark spot in the middle of the tree. Must be my shadow???
This is snow that's fallen off the roof on this side. I am not looking forward to how it will look in another month!
I guess it's pretty obvious what this one is. The door is further to the right...
This is our one and only grocery story. The owner goes to Juneau once a week with a largish boat and brings back all the groceries for that week.
Home again! Here's the little shed -- notice we have dug out a path to the door so I can get the wheelbarrow with a load of firewood through there. This is the second time we have had to dig it out thus far. I am sure we will have to touch it up every time the plower comes through.
Should have taken a picture of my buried car, but it's too late now. It's after 3:00 and the light is already fading.
Come visit -- I have a good snow shovel!

Those pictures look beautiful, the snow gives it a real Christmas feeling.
I'm sure the snow can also become a royal pain in the back at times.
The last sentence reminded me that when I was young I was my dad's shovel.
Growing up in upstate NY, I shoveled a heck of a lot of snow over the years.
Subconsciencely that may be why I ended up in FL for the last 35 years...lol
We are having unusually warm weather for this time of the year here.
It's been over 80 and is expected to hit 82 and 83 over the next 2 days.
Normally, in late October I run the heat at night, I haven't run it once yet.
Awesome post Fran.
John
Me either Fran, I want the 60s and 70s, not sure what happened.
Usually, it's much colder, I'm running my AC instead of heat now.
Our average summer temp is between 60 and 70. I've seen it get up to 80 occasionally, but not very often.
Wow! I visited Alaska in the summer years ago and it was lovely. Not being a fan of cold and snow, I don’t think I could live there but I really enjoyed your pictures. You live in a wonderous winter land! Very stunning! Thanks for taking the time to share with us.

It's only snowy part of the year, you know. This winter started a bit earlier than usual. It usually starts getting nice sometime in April.
When it's cold and snowy, you stay inside by the fire and work on Wealthy Affiliate -- or tell people why it's fun to live here...lol...
This is AWESOME, Fran! Your own tourist attraction winter wonderland! It looks so nice and cozy inside with the little tree and the backdrop of snow outside! That would make a might fine Christmas!
You took some excellent images! Everything seems so quaint!
That shed of yours looks big enough to live in! I don't recall it being that big last year! It must have GROWN!
Stay warm and snug in there! Enjoy your Frisatsu!
Jeff⛄⛄
Actually, the shed is large enough to live in. I believe it's 12 x 20. Originally, the plan was to make it a guest cottage, but I ran out of money.
Well, you'd be welcome to fix up that shed into a cabin...of course, we'd have to get some kind of storage unit for all the stuff I have in there.
Another shed Jeff? If you moved up there you would have to build a substantially sized warehouse to accommodate all stuff you have accumulated over the years!!🤣🐫
No, Nick That would be a resort retreat, and when I wasn't in residence Fran could use it as a guest cabin! 🐫🐪
Sounds like a much better idea Jeffrey! I know how much you enjoy the white stuff after all!🤣🐫
Well, come on down! The first of May would be a good time to start. You can drive up to save money and bring tools and supplies. Bring Kitty.
I'd love too, Fran, but not sure my vehicles will be up to snuff by that time, plus, that is when my locksmith work ramps up too!
Jeff
Yes, I know -- I live on another planet, or might as well. You could always fly up and send tools as freight. Sigh! It's a good pipe dream.
Your Vehicle's have little chance of making it through the winter in Kansas Jeff!
As for a winter in those parts further North, I believe your vehicles have absolutely no chance of survival!!🐫🍺🌨🌨

Hey Fran,
Thanks for sharing those 'wintery' images.... brrrrr!😬
In southern Ontario, Canada, we have a warming effect followed by nasty winds that has dissolved what little snow landed over night on Thursday evening.
Darkness sets in here at about 4:30 PM, so am looking forward to AFTER December when the light shall start coming back our way once again. :-)
Yes, winter has come earlier than usual here. The plowman just did my long driveway yet again...that's 6 times since the first snow, which wasn't that long ago. I will be broke just paying for plowing!
Wish we'd have a warming effect here.
