Building Meaningful Twitter Relationships With Large Brands

Hey there,

I am glad you are looking at this today. This is my small way of hopefully helping you towards your goal of building credibility around your online business ventures, via calculated Twitter follows.

Not so long ago I noticed on my Twitter feed large companies in Europe such as the BBC, Sainsbury's etc following random individuals, and I decided to investigate why. I noticed that the large companies engaged tweets that centred around their brand. So I decided to test the theory out, by creating tweets of a similar nature.

I will give you an example using Sainsbury's (J Sainsburys PLC - large supermarket chain in Europe):

  • By sending a tweet to Sainsburys asking for the nearest supermarket in relation to where I live that sold cinnamon buns, I received a response from a team member that deals with the brands marketing within 5 minutes.
  • I then tweeted the individual explaining I had a business question to ask, but needed them to follow me in order to keep the matter private.
  • Once they followed I asked the question, which they answered.

Now this process works 60-70% of the time. When it doesn't you are often given a generic email to contact with your question.

The most important thing to remember is that behind the brands Twitter handle/account is a regular person like you and me. Make friends with the individual or team members, and they will often help you. By help you, I mean retweet your relevant messages to their 100's of thousands maybe even millions. To make this happen you must send a tweet that is relevant to the brand which includes them in the message eg "I can help you lose weight. Pick up Lucy's fat loss pills at your nearest @Sainsburys for only $3 today." Including the brand within your tweet alerts them of your message, and they will likely extend your message to the right audience, their followers.

Having large brands follow you creates credibility to consumers of your products/ services. bear in mind, brands will not help you if you are in direct competition, so choose them carefully. Think about how what both you and the brand do are complimentary to each other, and you are on to a winner.

I hope this proves to be as useful to you as it has been to me. Please like this blog, and share it, so that it can be of use to the WA community. If you have any feedback, I would appreciate it, as I am still learning about how to truly use Twitter, and I am sure this insight will help many within the WA community and beyond.

Lots of love and success.

Alexander

I have never come across this strategy Alexander, it is smart and worth trying. One little grammatical change you may want to make. The phrase 'bare in mind' found at the start of the 2nd last paragraph should read 'bear in mind'.

Thanks for sharing this secret with us, I look forward to your next tip.
