How Many Words is Enough for SEO

Hello all yesterday there was a discussion about how many words that should be on a page or post to get the best SEO as possible....Quite awhile ago I remember reading that 350-500 approx. was the best amount of words to use for SEO practices...

Not all agreeded that is for sure....so I had to go off and do some research on this topic....did a lot of reading and checked out a few fourums on this question....

I did some reading again that mentioned that 350-500 or so were a good amount of words for SEO...

The general consensus on this is that there is no right number of words for proper SEO...I have read that folks have been ranking with 50 words 500-1200 it seems to be all in the content not the amount of words on the page. In other words say what you need to say and do not worry about the amount of word as far as SEO goes it does not seem to matter.

Some are saying more text, bettter chance for long keyword phrases to be intorduced into your content (natually of course). This holds valildity for sure...

Now on he other hand I also read that many like to keep it between 300-700 more for the fact of reader interaction more than for SEO purposes.....emmmm maybe the first time I misread what I was reading....

It seems that the amount of words for optimum is SEO ?????? as long as it is original, quality content it does not seem to matter...at least this is the conclusion I came too from all the reading I did...

I was quite wrong in my thoughts that it mattered about the amount of words needed for good SEO....sorry for any confusion on this topic

I still think that too many words will get the vistior to run away from the page or post....to much text seeems to make people not read the whole article anyways...I really do not like a huge page of text...

In Conclusion
The amount of words is not a deciding factor in SEO rankings of your page...it is the quality of the content.....still I think it is prudent to keep the reader intereted in your text....many opionions on this subject....some agree some do not on what is the best amount for your visitor to stay interested in the text.....or how to present your text....more reading on this for sure...later...

Hope this shines some light on this disccusion....again sorry for any confusion on my part....:)

I think it depends on the industry, and who's reading it. Someone reading a personal development blog might be happy to read a 2000 word article, whereas someone looking for hairstyle information might be more happy to have a shorter one.

I would agree your audience is going to make a difference for sure..

Quality wins every time. Thanks for doing all this research and sharing it!

yes it does....glad to share my findings...thanks Shawn

I think the people with success from 50 words were either established people or they had some cool infographics to support those 50 words.

And that is a very good point I do not think it was just 50 words, unless they were magic words.....I am sure there was somthing of the sort involved yes and established site as far as I know is bennificial....thanks for the comment Anindochk.

Not an issue. We are sharing and learning ;)

yeah I think I read that search engines don't just look for "number of words" and "keyword density" (speaking of which, that should be 2-4% for websites right?) they also look for user interaction or something, whether they are scrolling down and clicking other pages on the site, how much time they spend etc, so I think quality of content, ease of navigation, layout, are also important

I have always been led to bellieve keyword density should be 2-5%...not sure about all what google looks for as I know there is about 200 or more things they search for???...As we are being told all the time quality content all the way round is the thing to do it works.....again without writing a book...:)

yeah, i think it is too easy to get stuck with keywords and seo and everything, it is just one aspect of getting traffic afterall, your post is a good reminder of what is more important

i definitely agree about too many words chases away the reader - if they want a novel they can buy 'war and peace' - i'm convinced that internet attention span is limited - very limited

I tend to agree Steve I think most people want it short and to the point..

I usually get my girlfriend to read a new post and see how far she gets before she says "too much writing, lazy to read"
