Hello all.....I am in the process of making a redo of my site and a question came up on the visual effects my font is having on people....

For this site I have chosen Times New Roman.....at least on the front page as of now...(under construction)

so is their a better font, one that is used most often or is it really a matter of personal opinion...????

Is times new roman a bit to hard to read....????

What is the better alternative....thanks all....

Tim

There is one font that is used almost universally. It is found in almost all advertising media across every company over the globe for the last 60 years or so.

Helvetica.

One of the reasons I like Helvetica at is it instantly creates a familiarity for your customer base. You're not giving them some weird new design for their brain to process, just the tried and true, clean and simple Helvetica.

Sometimes it's good to stand out, and others, it's not. When you want your content to shine, you don't want your audience thinking about the font.

Of course, Helvetica is not the only option if you're going this direction. Arial (as Jay pointed out) is also commonly used, and has a similar feel to Helvetica (sans serif, very clean).

Times new roman? I never use it. Ever. It looks and feels to much like a high school term paper.

In fact, it seems most serif fonts are falling out of favor (serifs are the tails on the ends of the letters), although historically serif fonts have been used for body text and sans-serif for titles and headers.

I hope this helps!

Fonts are very much a personal taste thing. As long as you don't use something way out that is difficult to read you should be OK.

I kind of think the same way but I know some fonts do run their course for us IMer's like the comic font I use to use it and I liked it....until I read that no one is using it anymore....I hate for anyone to leave my site because of the font.....Thank theos for the comment

I like Arial. For some reason Times New Roman is depressing to me.

Lot of good fonts out there...I just don't want to use the one many do not like.....thanks kamali

When choosing fonts, try and keep in mind that the person visiting the site must have the font installed on their computer to see it.

There are some work around with this, but for the sake of simplicity, let's focus on simple fonts.

For titles & headers I prefer:
* Myriad Bold
* Times New Roman

For content:
* Arial
* Helvetica

Thanks Jay I will make a few changes and see what they look like....

Hi Jay, I am trying to change the font of my size, because I don't like the one set up by default on my theme(Coloway). Is there a video on how to change the font of your site? I tried with some CSS codes, but nothing happened.Thanks!
