Why I Don't Use The Word Fail and Why I will Never Fail.

I can only fail if I quit. As I have no intention of quitting then I have no intention of failing.

To me to fail = to quit, so I may find many wrong ways of doing things and therefore be unsuccessful but I will not be a failure or failing as I am bouncing back and trying again.

I am sure many of the older generation have heard remarks like 'you will never make anything of yourself' or 'you are a failure'. These probably came from someone in authority such as a teacher. Someone who really did not know or understand your personality.

I believe comments like these have been removed from modern education so many of the younger members here may not be quite so understanding of what I am saying.

Yes, it was an extremely bad practice that was supposed to get you to buck your ideas up and buckle down to your work, but for me it had the opposite effect.

I believed what these people in power told me so what was the point of bothering. They had already mapped out my life of failure for me.

It was only many years later when I realized this type of bullying education was so wrong, not only wrong in what it was telling me but also wrong because of the profound effect it had on my life.

I wasn't the failure but the system that educated me was. It failed me and many others of my generation who had and believed the same statements.

What can I do about it? Nothing other than prove these cynics wrong in every sense of the word. Unfortunately the majority if not all of them will be dead by now as I am talking about the late 1940s and 50s.

I just have to pick myself up and prove that I can do anything my heart desires.

Never believe those who try to put you down. Sometimes they do it from jealousy and other times from pure ignorance.

You are the only one who can effect your destiny so now is the time to buckle down and be as successful as you would like to be.

Exactly! You only fail when you give up! Awesome reminder. Thank you!!!! Christine

You're welcome Christine.

Derek

I agree with you as I was born during the second world war.

After the war we had nothing and as things got better our parents spoilt us and we spoilt our children.

Now they are spoiling their children and grandchildren.

Teaching them a positive way forward is a big task.

I agree Tom but it is something we need to do.

Derek

I'm with you Derek, I will never give up.
I've experienced both negative and positive teachers in my life. But the worst attitude came from a regional boss in the banking world who once told me that 'I've left my run to late'. Jim

There are many examples of bad teaching and bad management that we can tell people of. Things do seem to be getting better, at least educationally here in the UK.

Derek

Yep, I've always been told that quitters NEVER win! Thanks for the post, Derek!!

Jeff

Your welcome Jeff.

You are so right, Derek, all we need is to keep going! Whether it's one month, one year or several years, it can only get better! It takes time to learn everything. I'm not going to give up for sure.

The best attitude to have Lenka.

firstlearn - I had similar encounters in junior high school and was determined no to let them define me. Some of it was my own fault for not putting in the effort into things that later on in life I learned and that is when it turned around. Thank you for the share and the many memories that it brought back.

Thank you for reading and commenting Edward.

Good afternoon my friend, outstanding post, I don't like the word fail be in my vocabulary, something I banished out of my life. May you have a very successful blessed weekend.

Thank you Earl.

Great post Derek. Many people will be able to relate in some way to what you are expressing. I always expressed a desire to take academic courses when I was in high school , that would prepare me for college entrance. My guidance counselor advised me to take general education courses. She did not encourage me at all. I now have three college degrees and qualifications for a few career paths. In life you must follow your own instincts.
Loved the post.
Thanks Derek

Thank you for your comments Ronald.

Excellent! Authority figures will try to put others in convenient (for them) places. Let's determine our own status.....Richard

Definitely Richard. We have to make the most of our lives irrespective of what others think.

Derek
