OK what caused it this time? Well actually it was reading and answering emails on WA.

In particular it was one specific email on 9/11. I went back to 2001 and what I was doing at the time. I was still working back then and I was going through my second week of Training as a driving examiner.

I didn't learn about it until 5pm UK time 12 noon est, as we were out in cars doing our training. Of course this then brought back thought of my career as an examiner which led to my earlier career as a driving instructor.
This released memories of some of the pupils and encounters I had gone through . Befor I knew it an hour had passed and I still had not replied to the blog.

Sometimes your mind takes over what you are supposed to be doing, and you end up wasting time. Still it did give me something to blog about on WA.

It is important to stay focussed and not to let others writings change your path. Today I slipped up and allowed my mind to control what I was doing.

How can we do anything but reflect on a day like today, Derek? I'm having the same problem that you are. It was a devastating day in history.
Don't be too hard on yourselves. A lot of us are probably remembering today.
Wendi

Thank you for your comments Wendi.

Derek

Sometimes there just ain't enough hours in the day. What with all the shiny objects on the internet and then swelling memories on a day like today.

I was teaching scuba in the Florida Keys and we were just loading the boat when someone came out of the motel and screamed what was happening. We all, saw the second plane hit live I believe.

I will never forget the feelings we all exchanged~~~~~~

I am sure it affected everybody Dennis.

Derek

I have to agree with Kaju, Derek. Don't be too hard on yourself. 9/11 was a day like no other in the U.S. and we should all reflect on it and remember.

As far as procrastinating goes, I wouldn't call it that at all. To me, procrastinating is something that goes on for a day or two or more, a lot more.

So...no, you're not doing that "P" thing you are just remembering and, That's OK.

Thanks for your comments Wayne.

Hi Derek,
Nice post, Derek. Procrastion is one of my problems to overcome. It is so easy and "think" about it.

There are times when we need to contemplate a situation or a problem of course. But too often with me, it is day-dreaming about nothing.

Thanks for the "wake-Up".

Bill

Glad to have helped Bill. Thanks for the comments.

Derek

Kaju, below, is right. Don't be too hard on yourself.
I think many of us have kind of felt strange today, remembering that fateful event....a shared experience. It's respectful to take some time to remember that day and those we lost and those who fought to save others.
Colette and Philip

Thank you Colette and Philip. Perhaps it just hit harder than usual for some reason today.

Derek

Go easy on yourself Derek, it's okay!
Nothing wrong with answering emails, just set aside a small finite amount of time to get this done. And you will still be productive:)

Hey Derek,
I do that all the time. In my case I call it "old timers disease" and just laugh it off.

Tried and True

Elaine

I think I will have to start doing the same Elaine. Thank you for commenting.

Derek

It was a great tragedy that, brought many people to the shocking horror certain people can inflict on others.

It certainly was Michael.

Derek

Thanks Derek.
Isn’t that similar to “shiny object syndrome” where we are drawn away from a goal or task at hand by something else.... I plead GUILTY!!
Stay the course my friend, it’s an ongoing battle.
KyleAnn

You are right of course KyleAnn.

Derek

Derek, I have the same problem sometimes. Instead of focusing on what matters I focus on what doesn't matter. It's hard sometimes but we have to remember the end goal.

Yes, Gary we always have to be on our guard.
