Once Again The Dreaded Depression Attacks!

Why do I call it the dreaded depression?

I don't want to be where I am at the moment and so I have to wait for the depression to pass. Once again the dreaded depression attacks, and I have to be on my guard with everything I do.

It is just one of those things I have learned to live with. Being fuzzy headed with continual background headache is no fun for anyone. I just have to go with it and once I realise it is starting to pass I can start working again.


Depression is one of those strange things that affects everybody in different ways which means it is not always easy to recognise it in yourself. Then comes the thought that depression is not something to talk about. I find it easier to deal with when I talk about it.

I don't want to feel this way and I know I will get over it. It just means I don't do as much as I would like to when this happens.

Hi, Derek, when you feel depressed, in my opinion, the best way to get out of it, is to talk to someone you trust, or get out, go for walk, do something different to change your thinking, your mood.

Me too. Well done for writing about it. Try to challenge yourself to do small tasks. I think that you could write a longer post about it with advice on how to get through it as soon as you feel up for it.

Hi Derek- There is a really great book called "Taming the Black Dog" you may find it on Amazon and if you do grab it as it is such a good book and will help you I am sure of it.
I have clients I have given my copy to read and all of them have been positively helped by reading it

Great Post. I know what you are talking about because I am bipolar and that is worse than depression because I have the highs and lows and that is worse.

Because you don't know when you are going to have mood swings with it or if you are going on a spending spree. So then I have to hide my wallet so I can't get to my bank cards and start spending money like crazy.

Or if I get the lows when I get so depressed that I start having mood swings and start acting out of hand and that is when everyone leaves me alone.

You are not alone with this issue by any means I have it worse then most people have it. I am used to it and deal with it with meds of course and with therapy.

So don't ever think you are alone because you are not but talking about things does help. I have learned that over the years. I was diagnosed with I was in my early twenties so it has been over thirty plus years for me. I hope this helps you out.

I do realise this is a problem that affects many people Marmar and a lot of them much worse than me.

For me it started in my teens back in the 50's when in the UK at least you were given medications and nothing else.

I don't understand you were not given any medication for your depression at the time. Please explain a little confused.

Sorry to hear that Derek. If you would like to chat you can always PM me. Not that am an expert in depression but I have heard people give different views on it and its effect on the individual. I studied the issue a bit as a social worker but has never had the opportunity to talk to someone who has first hand knowledge. In the mean time, take it easy and try to concentrate on positive and uplifting thinngs. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Derek and you're not alone. I struggle with this also. Does this happen often? Are you on any meds for depression?
My son, in Houston, struggles severely with this, even on meds, but has found that CBD helps with his anxiety. I'd love to try it, but until it's legal in Canada, I have to wait. He says it gives great relief for about 2-3 hours at a time.
If you're interested in this, let me know, ok.
In the meantime, take time for yourself. Find ways to relax your mind. Try to control any negative thoughts and don't worry about work. Your mental health comes first!!
