How Long Before I Make Money?

I've seen and heard this question and some great answers by Wealthy Affiliate members so often that I thought I had better write a few things down because there are times when we all need reminders or explanation. Yes, there are plenty of comments and posts out there attempting to answer this question yet, people are still asking. Don't worry if you're one of them, there's no such thing as a bad question, keep rephrasing if you don't follow the answer and ask until you get it. Or, study a few successful people and see how they achieved their success. Did it take them a while?

Hands up if you've seen any ads that tell you how you will be earning 5K + in your first week. I've seen a few and while some of them are absolutely scams they are not all yet, how can they make such claims?

Why Not?

Success is a cumulative thing that rarely happens without often intense and calculated input from the success seeker.

Showing The Way

Members of Wealthy Affiliate (WA) have the edge over many people because there is a very simple and actionable process that can be used and eventually, so long as you don't quit, it will lead to success. The time it takes depends . . .

  • How much time you have available to put in
  • The niche you choose. Some are more competitive than others and establishing your credibility might take longer
  • Whether or not you are following a credible system or skipping steps along the way

The training system at WA and the courses offered by members are fully considered before they are published and are based on actual success models. In other words, they work if they are followed.

You might be lucky and make a sale from your very first website post although statistically, the chances of that are low. It might take a month, six months or longer but know this:

The roads to Success and Failure are not dramatically different and the difference between the two is really not that much of a difference.

"People who succeed have momentum. The more they succeed, the more they want to succeed, and the more they find a way to succeed. Similarly, when someone is failing, the tendency is to get on a downward spiral that can even become a self-fulfilling prophecy." (Tony Robbins)

Checking your website stats every five-minutes is not going to bring success (or visitors). Creating valuable content will contribute to that.

Looking at how many people clicked through to your affiliate links won't bring in sales or more click throughs. Offering your visitors a good reason to follow your links will. I saw a post not so long ago that had Amazon ads offering products that were in no way associated with the post. Why would I want to click on one of those? Relevance and value is so important.

In his post, "SEO is Dead", Mike Beatty, one of our Wealthy Affiliate family members asked, "What is the most important trait to success"? I'm not going to list mine in this post but I am fully aware of my own, several important traits and have hinted at a couple above.

The question is, and there is no need to share; are you aware of yours? If not, there is a beautiful community of people here at Wealthy Affiliate who want to help so, rather than asking when will I be successful. Why not rephrase the question and ask, what do I need to do to be successful? Or, revisit the training because many of the answers are out there if not obviously set in your mind yet.

There are Positive, Dynamic Solutions to every challenge, it's just a case of tracking them down and taking passionate action.

Thanks Steve, I really enjoyed this post and I LOVE your artistic signature!

I've been telling myself that I have accepted the fact that I won't make money right away. But still I was intrigued by your link to this post so I clicked on it.

While reading it I realized that in the back of my very busy little brain is this voice that's say "But you'll be different!" Ha ha. Not sure if that's because of my positive, never give up attitude or if I'm just deluding myself.

I just thought it would be fun to post this, be real, ya know?

Wondering how many other's have this same little thought in the back of their mind. Or maybe that's a BIG thought!

I'm not going to give up on Wealthy Affiliate! After several years researching all kinds of business ops and buying lots of shiny objects I have come to the conclusion that Wealthy Affiliate has
EVERYTHING I need to become the success I know I can be. And it's the business model that suits my personality!

Thank you for this down to earth post. I'm following you now.

Veronica

PS I love the images you chose for this post. Wondering if those came from the WA library of images?

Thank you Veronica. Superb comments and thank you for sharing your thoughts. Your attitude is wonderful and if you stay motivated as you are the seeds of your success will grow and blossom. You can be different!
Thanks too for liking the signature, that's just as it is, the dots are glitter that my daughter left on the scanner and happily, I didn't notice 😊 The images are WA library although you can use any so long as there are no legal reasons not to.
I will be following you back in a minute, thanks for following and I'm looking forward to seeing your success! Anytime you need help, chat, ideas, motivation, just SHOUT, I'm in France but sure to hear and I always respond.

Have a great evening, day . . .
Steve

Ha ha, love it, love it! Glitter left by your daughter on the scanner! What a fortunate oversite!

😊 It was red, green & blue. Pity it didn't show up on the scan. That would've been cool.

Reality check type post. Enjoyed it very much. I too have fallen victim to thinking money could be had just like that! It takes hard, nose grinding work and perseverance. I've come back to WA to once and for all do something the right way on-line. I'm shy by nature but have actually enjoyed meeting the community and hearing inspiring life stories. We're all not so different. We want the same things out of life - financial freedom and the desire to help our fellow man get through this thing called life. Hearing everyone's encouragement has lit a fire under me. Thank you again, Steve, for your post.

Regards,
Linda

Hi Linda. Wonderful comments thank you and thanks too for sharing something about you. Anytime you need a helping hand or a few positive ideas, please shout. I will always respond.
Keep those fires burning.
Wishing you a wonderful day
Steve

Thank you, Steve. I will give a shout out to you when the embers start cooling. Enjoy your day!

Linda

Great. There's plenty of fuel for the fire around here 🔥 S

Accepting that you will, undoubtedly, fail at some point, and then the ability to turn that failure around to a lesson is vital I think. Apart from that, focusing on what will actually "move the needle" in your business is crucial. As you say, continuously watching your stats won't move you forward, but learning and creating will.

Thanks for a great post!

Thank you Katrin. Creating and learning is the way to go 😊
Happy Monday
Steve

Hi Steve,

You have answered the the question in hand very simply and beautifully. This leads me to apply the much needed shift in my focus which will take me in the right direction.

I am blessed to be a part of this community where there are many people to guide and show the right path to success. I am able to continuously steer my ship to keep it in course and not drift away.

Thank you very much for your post.
Srinivasan

Thank you Srinivasan. I like that . . . keep steering your ship. You are the captain.
Wishing you a wonderful day.
Steve

Your advise is spot on, and I know from experience. This is more inspiration for me since I've been putting time into the site for several years and have had modest sales from it as it is. I'm excited to use the new WA arsenal to bring it to the next level.

Thank you Annie. The WA arsenal can indeed help to raise the level. Wishing you much more success.
Steve

I really enjoyed this. This matures my perspective as to what this business is all about. I like that, what DO I need to do, not WHEN. If culture and society didn't push us here any faster, I am at least happy to learn something new away from the fast pace that can sometimes cause a scarcity mindset (new blog post for you!).

Thank you Cameron, I agree, the pace can lead to all types of chaos and make us believe that scarcity is a "thing". A good blog post may well be in there. Thanks for suggesting that.

Steve

Thank you very much Steve you were very insightful and helpful and having people like you, as well as digging in and putting the work in, following the program is a MAJOR factor in regards to my success being just within reach I will take what i received from this post and apply it.

Jay.

Steve

Thank you Steve I really appreciate this. Steve I but out a post a couple days ago and nobody responded. I'm still learning the WA computer system. I want to share with you the post.
What we love to do

We tell lies to each other all of our lives. We try to cheat at each other all of our lives. We try to steal from each other all of our lives. We try to cut corners all of our lives. We love to talk bad and criticize each other behind each others back. We are a society that loves to gossip a lot. We steel when ever we can behind each others back. We just love to talk about bad thing about each other behind each others back. We hunger and yearn for self righteousness from people around us all of the time. We expect respect from everyone around us all of the time. And by the way nothing less. We take most people around us for granted. We want everybody to give to me. We want everybody attention. We want everybody to love me. I mean, I want to be happy. We all want everybody to cater to me, my needs, and my desires. We all want Christmas gifts from everyone around us. We all want someone to pay all of our bills. We love to get rid of people that we don't like. We are a society that craves is unending and we crave for a lot. We all want to live a life of fragrance. The person that has a 1000% wants 1000% more. We all don't want you to forget my birthday. We all want really nice things. I want nobody talking bad about me behind my back. I want my niece to cut her hair it is just too long. I can't understand how anyone can drink coffee black. My gosh! That person over there he bought a brand new car BUT he bought a black car my gosh. I mean, I have better taste than that!!! Hay that lady over there Waring a purple dress, my gosh there's a better shade of purple then that!!! Look at that guy over there the color of his soc does not match the color of his pants. I wish that the dish that I'm eating had better spices. Why is my electric bill so expensive? Hay that house five blocks away gosh there yard looks like a junk yard. My co worker wants to go on a two weeks vacation but the boss said no. This shopping mall is only for the rich. I wish I could have spaghetti for dinner tonight. I am over whelmed right now with a lot of work. I want to go out with that nice women over there but she's going out with another guy. No matter what we do, we don't seem to do anything right. You know, I can never win an argument within my family. I regret that I did not study hard when I was in school. The investment I made two years ago is not paying off. Didn't you mother teach you how to cook? I wish that we had a good pastor in our church. We spend a whole lot of time through out our life taking each other for granted. It is better to give than to receive. Half of our life time problems we create our selves. It is always the person out there that we all blame. I liked my third grade teacher. When are they going to build better roads? We were suppose to go on vacation six months ago but my brother got sick. The cost of living is outrageous. Everything is too expensive Tom is trying to impress Gayle so that he could ask her on a date. Wow it is not too crowded out today. Oh boy! I forgot to pay the electric bill last week. My ant is trying to convince her neighbor to buy her car. My friend has a beach house and she is inviting all of us to spend time at her beach house. I have a school exam next week. My father has a good friend that wants to help us build a patio. We are going to the big island of Hawaii in a couple months. We all need to stop criticizing each other. Wow! It is almost the holiday season once again. The fishes are biting today. I found out just last week that my uncles friend has cancer. I grew up in Honolulu Hawaii and graduated from Roosevelt High School located in Makiki. That person over there wants to borrow money from his brother. This is a nice party and the food is excellent. I borrowed four books from the library last week The boy scout troop is going camping two months from now. I need to go downtown and meet my insurgence agent next week. Football season is coming. My neighbor, my cousin and one of my co-worker all goes to the same church I need to work overtime this weekend. I need a hair cut. My sister plays tennis with my wife. Let's go out for dinner tonight. I have a favorite TV show every Thursday night. I'm going to the shopping mall and I'm going to buy two new pants and two new shirts for the upcoming new school year. My dad has a dentist appointment next week. I have no mail today in my mail box. We need to realize how important we are. I love to play hearts. we need a new roof in our house. Let's go camping some time in the future. The world is not as peaceful as it us to be. My first bicycle that my dad bought for me was blue. We always roast a turkey for Thanksgiving. I will try harder this year to have a better attitude. I have a rain coat to wear every time it rains. How are we going to save money for college? It is going to take a bulldozer to break down this house. We went to see our accountant to do our taxes. Who is going to win the world series this year? The odds is not in our favor..

Hi Ricardo, That is a fantastic post and I feel disappointed that I didn't see it when you posted. It opens up so many positive thoughts too but the problem I see around me is that people allow themselves to drown in the negative whirlpool that drags them down until they can't see the light. I'm going over to your blog and I will add a comment from there too.
I hope you have a wonderful day ahead.
Steve
